Famicom power question

Recommended Posts

Just purchased an original Famicom from Japan (good old Ebay!)

I wanted to verify a couple of things that I have been tryin to figure out.

It did not come with a power supply. I found that it is 10V DC center negative. I read that a Genesis 1 power adapter will work (but not a Genesis 2 or 3, nor will any of the umpteen left over powwr adapters that I have laying around). Will a Genesis 1 power adapter work? I will need to order one so I want to be sure.

It has an RF cable socket. Will the Atari 7800 cable work OK? Is there a mod cable available that enables you to use the RCA inputs on the TV (like the AV cables they sell for some of the other older consoles)?

The channel one and two switch corespond to like channel 97 and 98 here in the US or something like that. Correct?

Thanks for the help. My son and I are dying to try it out, but we don't want to fry it.

Genesis model I is rated at 9-10v DC with center negative, so should be fine as long as the plug is proper diameter to fit into the Famicom female plug. Before you order one, take a trip to your local Goodwill or Salvation Army store. They usually have bins of orphaned power adapters for $1-$2 a piece. You don't need a Sega or Nintendo brand adapter as long as it outputs 9-10v DC at minimum 1 amp with center negative polarity and correct sized plug. I have found numerous ones for answering machines and kids toys that will work fine on a Genesis model I. Also, Atari Jaguar and Sega Master System power bricks will do fine for your Famicom. FYI.

If you go to this site, http://famicomworld.com/workshop/tech/famicom-power-adaptor/, they give the specs on what type of power supply you need. I have a famicom and the famicom disk system and all I do is plug the power supply that came with them right into a wall outlet in the U.S. I have not used the step down converter, along with a lot of the people on famicomworld's forum.
