Harmony Cart 7800

Underball

Recommended Posts

I believe a few were made and sold at the show. I was the first name on his interest list at the show. He contacted me and is working on build one for me. He's trying to catch up on things after the show. I know I will getting one sometime in the near future, and I'm sure anyone else who wants one will have the opportunity in the near future. I think patients is the key.

Any news on the 7800 cart?????? I'd really like to get one....

An overall summary of where the product stands regarding its beta testing is here. Work still needs to be done towards an official release.

For those choosing to be a part of the testing phase, the initial batch of boards have sold out; ~20 more are on the way in a few weeks. However, they all could be spoken for already. It may be best to reach out to batari via PM, if interested.

I would second that waiting untill there is more support. There is no manual and your pretty much on your own after buying these devices as the tech support is very slim. The atari consoles don't have a flashjazzcat sorta guy like the 8 bit consoles have. Using the harmony manual for reference is tough because they are not the same thing. There is no advice from anyone except saying it is in beta.

I would like to test mine but it does not work whatsoever. I have yet to see anyone with a fully functional concerto to date.

It would be great to provide data on which roms work in which consoles etc. but really nothing happens. Spend evenings in front of the computer reading threads and downloading programs and tring to reprogram eeproms to no avail. And go back to your atari and find out it still does not work. And message people and get no response. Make threads asking for help and get no response. So unless you enjoy spending 129usd on a device that does not work save your money and wait for someone to come out with a product that does. Or emulate the 7800 as it seems it may be the only viable option to play the hacks etc out there.

Huh..."There is no advice from anyone except saying it is in beta"?

-Possible fix to exisitng carts to address the POKEY/USB issue.

-Advice concerning cutting a casing for the board.

-Where GND and VCC are on the Pokey chip.

-Confirmation on indentified pins on POKEY chip.

-Offer from batari to send his console and/or provide another Concerto to a tester.

-Offer from batari to pay shipping both ways to make a Concerto work with a console.

-Alternate BIOS provided.

-Explained reboot feature not working properly yet.

-Reply to your question on why you would need to plug USB to cart.

-Explained how to download ROMs made available.

Four days ago by batari...

-Explained the chip inside the cart for USB and a link to drivers.

-Explained why there is a gob of solder on someone's board.

-Requested people provide PSU details.

The quoted rant above, is quite the 180 degree change in position of being 100% confident in purchase.

You received your board just 8 days ago. Two days after you received your board, batari replied to your PM. He also replied to another PM regarding a suitable solution for a different user.

Two days ago, it was suggested (in the thread you made asking for help), you were using a power only USB cable and not one that handles data. You confirmed, that was indeed the issue.

Now a rant and statement there is "no advice from anyone except saying it is in beta." ...Why? :?

Is it because you asked a question less than 24 hours ago that is not replied to yet?

Again, my friend, batari made it clear the current state of the Concerto cart before providing means for additional individuals to chose and purchase a beta product. "Some would load almost no games at all." (batari's words verbatim). There have been various different results (Also stipulated and experienced by batari), including the report that all original retail and many homebrew/hacks are working perfectly fine.

Patience and cooperation is needed to sort through the issues for those who are not as fortunate at this time. :)

speak for yourself. It's been an exercise in fun and learning for most.

Really, Fun and learning for most? Maybe for you as most of the games work on your console per your other postings. Yeah I learned that no matter what I try (different bios, different SD cards, different roms) it makes no difference!

When you have 0% play ability, the only fun I have had is taking the Concerto cartridge out of 7800 and using my rom game cartridges or my Harmory for 2600 games.

I agree with Kosmic Stardust 100%.

You bought a product that was clearly described as a work in progress, and may in fact not work properly, or at all depending upon your console. You can work with batari to get the issue resolved, or get a refund. making a big public stink on the board about it doesn't help anything or anyone. All it does is make developers like batari reluctant to share information about progress, or reluctant to offer work in progress devices.

I would suggest you not buy a WIP beta product going forward if you're not ready to deal with the prospect of compatibility issues.

Well my feedback is just as important as your list of working games. Batari is now aware that on my console SD cards, and current BIOS s on the Concerto do not make a difference. He can look into other things, like he is with the power consumption and timing problems. If he is not able to deal with some feedback on his product he should not offer it for sale . He has been sharing his progress so don't speak on his behalf about being discouraged. If after this Concerto run he decides not to offer WIP devices, them maybe it is for the best.

If like myself and Kosmic, you were not able to play a single game on your Concerto, you would be singing a different song.

Count yourself as "Lucky" that it works for you. There are a lot of us who would love to use the cartridge to play 7800 games but can't..because for us it just doesn't work!

Some of us have more issues than "a few games don't play correctly" ...which I could deal with. Some of us don't have multiple 7800 to try things on. Of all the recent postings you seem to have one of the only one that works.

I am sure Batari will get to the root of the compatibility problems. There is only so much i can do to try and fix the compatibility issue, looks like it up to Batari with either hardware or more software fixes. Sorry but for me there has been no fun.

Thanks Everett. I am honestly getting more and more tempted to just sell mine. I'm not doubting that Batari has his hands full atm, but it would be nice if he could get back in touch with us on Concerto issues. The last PM I got was he would look into it and PM me later in the week. That was several weeks ago.

Specifically I wanted Batari or someone to offer to test my Concerto on their system to determine if it might have faulty chips or other symptoms. Currently I can play most 2600 games that don't use DPC, Starpath, or other exotic mappers. However nearly every 7800 ROM fails, some in spectacular fashion.

I am ready to pass the torch on to someone else. If anyone wants to buy my Concerto, with Pokey installed (I sacrificed a Ball Blazer to assemble it), send me a PM and we can negotiate a sale.

EDIT: It's now up for grabs. Free Pokey chip!

So is the concerto still in the works? It sounds like there might have ended up being some major re-working to do, due to significant changes in 7800 console revisions. Although, I saw a sales post for the cocerto cartridge from Everett1954 in the marketplace and he said it works great with the 7800. I'm assuming something got fixed or he got a different 7800 that is compatible. It would be good to know what revision of the 7800 it is if the latter is true.

Sorry to quote myself. Seems the discussion moved here:
