this really could benefit from 2-button control to have the 2nd button cycle thru weapons, bypassing the vcs selector swich- plz somone put this one on yr to-do list!  the game will be as improved as it can get if this happens!!

I'm looking at it as a multi use controller. 2 button use on the 7800 and 2 button use on the 2600.

Not without modifying the controller or building an adapter.

You need to add a 10k resistor between pin 7 and pin 9 of the plug to allow the Atari 2600 to detect the second button. Unfortunately, pin 7 is not wired at all in a Master System controller. So you either need to also replace the cable, or build a little pass-through adapter and place the pullup resistor there, like this:
