3DO RSA key finally cracked!

Details are still a bit sketchy but over the last two months the 3DO RSA encryption keys have finally been brute forced. The algorithm has been known for quite some time but this is the first bit of solid news on a potential for homebrew. The Older Game releases from a few years back were just Betas that were reverse engineered using the 3DO Game Guru program but this is definitely something different and looks to be the real deal.

Seems the keys were indeed brute-forced, unlike Atari's keys (7800, Lynx, Jaguar) which were found via dumpster diving.

2 things:

 

A. Hope this encourages someone to package up the development environment in a Mac emulator.

 

B. Too bad this was accomplished in the era of DMCA. Trip or whoever owns the IP nowadays could smack this down even though it's hard earned honest reverse engineering.

If you check the other thread you may see that this is well and truly underway ! There is already a homebrew tool kit for both mac and pc in the works and a lot of us on the 3Do scene a very excited about this new development.
