Cebus Capucinis
WOW! According to the Q&A they are not proto EPROMS but actually EPROMS of released copies of the games, though....is that accurate?

CPUWIZ
For the last time, whenever you see a lot like this, they are not protos. Don't be fooled.

Cebus Capucinis
For the last time, whenever you see a lot like this, they are not protos. Don't be fooled. This makes me glad of two things: 1) that I am not big league enough to even try to venture into the "proto" market because I would easily get burned and 2) that there are many very knowledgeable people on this website who can immediately tell when someone is possibly pulling a fast one! I'll just stick to sitting in the corner with my full labeled player VCS carts. I wouldn't have bid on them anyway for exactly these reasons -- the EPROM/PROM chips are too complicated for a simple monkey fellow to understand. Hell I still need some R2s and R3s in normal carts!

CPUWIZ
Think of this auction as a modded PS1 and a whole bunch of burned discs. It's exactly the same.

What are your views on ROM chips (not eprom) that say "proto" on the bottom and another that says "for internal use only" I've got some I am curious about. Probably just came from the company that produced the chips? I've got a few Atlantis ROM's that are in too large of a package and have 4 pins on the end bent over (chips work fine) Edited March 12, 2010 by bjk7382

Probably just came from the company that produced the chips? I've got a few Atlantis ROM's that are in too large of a package and have 4 pins on the end bent over (chips work fine) My guess is that they are EPROM's that are OTP (one time programmable) and don't have the glass window (they are in a plastic package as opposed to ceramic). Pics would help.
bjk7382
Alright here is some pics of the interesting ones. I have 100+ of the ROMs but only a handful are different than what is in a regular cart. These are 2 Activision games that say "prototype" on the bottom (they look like ROMs that come out of production carts) One is Trick Shot and the other is Oink (but has a label that says "three pigs") Then there is one Atari game with the proto stamp - Centipede This is what the 3 above look like on the bottom Then the Atlantis chips that are too big, but both work fine And there are a few of, from what you say, look like the one time programmable eproms with no window
CPUWIZ
They might be production line samples, proof so to speak.
bjk7382
They might be production line samples, proof so to speak. So would you say more or less valuable than regular EPROMs?
djpubba
A one time programmable chip is called a PROM. The E in EPROM stands for erasable so if it's not erasable it's not an EPROM. You should definitely dump them to see if they're different from the release.

They are actually ROM's and not OTP's. I would say they are worth more, but you won't be buying a bunch of booze and hookers with what you could get for them. Wickeycolumbus
I bought these chips, and the joke is on you guys, there are some protos in that lot. I just got the deal of the year http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/159769-huge-lot-of-data-age-eproms/
Cebus Capucinis
I had a sneaky suspicion when I read that post you made that this was the same lot!!!
