Intellivision Variation Photo Site

Recommended Posts

As many of you know, I'm working on the giant list of variations for the Atari 2600. I decided to do the same for the Intellivision. The site itself is for video game variations, so covering more than one system was in the plan anyway. To see the site so far, just click on the link in my signature. The MS Word / PDF document will be put up for the Intellivision real soon. It will only contain the titles I've finished, so it will constantly be changed as I do more titles.

Anyway, with the Atari, besides label variations, I've put physical differences in the cartridges themselves. I'm working on the same thing with the Intellivision. These will be noted on the site with closeup photos and such. INTV Funhouse has mentioned many of these, but that site doesn't specify exactly which games have which variations.

I'm very detailed and want to document every single variation, whether it be label and/or cartridge itself.

Things I've discovered so far are as follows:

Snapped piece on back with just a bar, no date.

Snapped piece with one of 3 different forms of "USA" with 2 line info

Screwed in piece with one of 3 different forms of "USA" with 2 line info

Screwed in piece with one line date.

Screwed in piece with 2 line date, but only has a date without USA.

Molded one piece cartridge with no info on back

Top of cart with no "insert to this line"

Top of cart with normal "insert to this line"

Top of cart with thinner "insert to this line" (this one I just noticed with an Auto Racing cart, so I have to go back and check the carts I did already. I may just be more detailed and give titles of "insert line 1" or "insert line 2" meaning which one the cart has on each and every entry).

So there are many different combinations you can have just for the cartridge itself. I don't distinguish between Philips head screws and triangle allen wrench screws since these can be easily removed from one cart and put in another. It's probable that I'm going to find something else and have to change the page with the cartridge variations, but at least you'll know exactly what you are looking for if you want to pursue collecting variations.

With the boxes, I noticed that the slit you put the manual/overlays sometimes have 2 different sizes. I show this on the site too already along with the format for where the cart sits (plastic tray and no tray). Again, I'm bound to run across something else.

So this project is going to take me several months to do, especially since I haven't finished the 2600 yet. If you own something I don't have a scan of, contact me. I'm not doing manuals, but I will be listing them in the document. Overlays are being done, and for the most part will be acquired from INTV Funhouse. Though I'm being a little more detailed with these also. I'm distinguishing whether or not an overlay has been "whitewashed". Also, if there is a big distinction in color difference, I'm noting that too.

Anyway, let me know what you think so far. The site isn't fancy, but it's for info purposes, not for decoration.

Just like I thought. I found a new variation. It has to do with one of the 2 line copyright info. I'm going to show a zoomed image. It actually says "Mattel'Inc" with a ' between Mattel and Inc. Again, it's on Auto Racing. This is definitely fun. I'll update it on the site right now so you can see.

EDIT1:

ARGHH!!! I found another variation with the copyright lines. I'm scanning it right now and will have it up in 5 minutes. Man, I hope you guys are impressed with everything I'm doing.

EDIT2:

ARGHHHHHH!!!!! Ok, Damn Auto Racing is killing me. I found a 3rd variation with the "insert to" line. The first was 18.5mm long, the 2nd was 23mm long, and now I found one that is 20mm long. This new version also has a thicker "bar" that separates the "insert to" and "this line". Scan is going again and site will be updated shortly.

I need a job. It's 3:20am and I'm wide awake.

Ok, done with the 4 versions of the "insert to this line" It's now 4:20, so that means it took me 1 hour just to do a nice image showing all 4 carts and explaining them. Check them out on the site. I'm going to bed. I haven't even come close to finishing the carts of Auto Racing, let alone doing overlays, manuals, and boxes. Guess I'll work on it sometime later after I get up.

I think I have less hair today from yanking it out. I left well enough alone yesterday and did not look at an Intellivision cart at all. I was working on a box of 2600 games yesterday and updated my inventory.

But I just opened the next Auto Racing box and took a good look at the cart. I was studying the "insert to this line" and seeing which of the "3" variations it fit in. This would give me a better judge on rarity of variation. To my discovery, it didn't fit ANY of them, but is now the 5th version of this, technically 4th with it. It's similar to the one that looks like a zero, but has larger font.

Maybe I shouldn't have gotten myself into this mess. But like I said, I'm a very detailed person. I cannot and will not let this go. Though I now know why INTV Funhouse only lists label variations and not cartridge variations. There are TOO MANY!!!

But I feel I would be doing a disservice to the collectors out there if I did not show all the variations that exist. Since I chose this task, I must do it right. So later on tonight, you'll be seeing at least one more "insert to this line" variation on the "Cartridge variations" page. I need to go out and get some air and food.

Yes, it's happened again. And yes it's almost 3:30 am again. I found a new "insert to this line" variation, this time another type that does not have the words. This variation was on the white label of Auto Racing. It doesn't have the words, but it has the bar that separates the words. The website is already updated. I have now run out of Auto Racing carts to find any more of these variations. Just hope I don't find any with the other games I have to go back and check.

I'm going to finish Auto Racing and B-17 Bomber. I will then post the MS Word / PDF document so you can see all the variations in one shot, including the manual listings. You can also see how my madness works and what each of the abbreviations stand for.

Once this is up, I have to go through a huge box of 2600 carts I just got in, over 200 of them. I also want to work on the 2600 section again and try and make some more progress before moving through the other "B" titles for Intellivision.

If you see any mistakes or additions you can give me with what has been completed so far, I would appreciate it. I would like to have the boxes as complete as possible.

Got a little side tracked. Though I did complete through B-17, it turns out I had finished Bomb Squad back then. I don't own Body Slam, so I'm just going to use the info on INTV Funhouse. I wish I had this game. It would add better info to what I post. I will finish Bomb Squad tomorrow and get the word/pdf file up.
