2600 emulator with screenshots every X frames?

MAME lets you take MNG movies, and there are tools available that can convert those into a series of PNG images.

 

MESS, which is based on MAME but emulations consoles including the 2600, might have the same functionality.

Hmm, come to think of it PCAEWin recorded AVIs? Hm.

That's what MESS or any 2600 emulator will look like when the screen is rendered with square pixels, instead of using the proper pixel aspect ratio. Most consoles and computers back then used rectangular pixels, wider than they are tall.

 

Most flavors of MAME and MESS have an option to display games in the proper aspect ratio, but the programs' capturing tools will still use square pixels. Any graphics or image editing program can be used to correct the captured screenshots.
