coyo5050
Controllers are bad on my INTV III, they only partially work. You can disassemble them and disconnect the cable from the controller itself so I thought I would try and find a cheap system with working controllers and swap internal parts. Anyone know if the internal parts of the controllers are the same on these models? I'd rather just get another loose INTV III but I never seem to seem them come up for sale. The original I see often enough so I thought I would try the controller swap. Edited April 5, 2010 by coyo5050
HARMIK
They are the same so should work fine.
1980gamer
Lets clarify a little. The Intellivision III controller pin-out may be the same, but the circuit matrix within the controller is not. The physical mold of the controller is slightly different. Are you looking to just plug in new (used) controllers, or are you looking to rebuild your existing controllers? It sounds like to me, you want to rebuild. I can understand that. The console colors do not match. I was able to get new circuit matrix inserts for both Intellivision III and I from JHC about 5 years ago. I have not tried to contact them since then, but it may be worth a try to track them down. New (though old) circuit matrix replacements would be a great bet for you. FROM INTELLIVISION LIVES website: WHERE CAN I GET MY INTELLIVISION REPAIRED? CAN I GET NEW HAND CONTROLLERS OR A POWER SUPPLY? 4Jay's Classic Video Games of Antioch, California, offers an Intellivision repair service. They also sell reconditioned consoles, hand controllers, Intellivision II power supplies and game cartridges. You can visit their web site at www.4jays.com or call them at 925-777-1160 for specific requests or information. Tell 'em Intellivision Productions sent you! The "official" Intellivision repair shop (i.e., the place Mattel still refers people to) is JHC Electronics of Alhambra CA. Although they have assured us they are still in business and doing repairs, we have received a number of complaints about JHC's service, so we no longer list their address. In case you do run across their listing someplace else - proceed at your own risk! Like I said above, I was able to get new parts from JHC, I did buy some carts from them and they came in the wrong box with a photocopy of the correct box glued on. also, I picked up Mountain Madness SP Skiing from them.... It was the correct box..........with US SKIING in the box! I had to call for a replacement. I have picked up controllers over the years from JHC and they have all worked great! Though I did get the smooth INTV II controllers ( not a fan ) so I picked up Sears controllers as well. Good luck! Gene
HARMIK
Lets clarify a little. The Intellivision III controller pin-out may be the same, but the circuit matrix within the controller is not. The physical mold of the controller is slightly different. That actually explains something all the INTV 3 units I have had in the past from Australia Pal the matrix was the same as was the mould. I got a new in the box INTV 3 unit from the USA NTSC and I noticed the mould was different. As it was the only one I had seen like that I thought it was a rare thing. coyo5050
Yeah I am looking to replace the circuit matrix on the insidse so that the controllers still match the unit as well as slide in to the storage spot. Is the mold too different in shape and color to just be able to place the black button plastic piece into an INTV I controller and connect it up? 1980gamer
coyo5050, The upper and lower housing are very different between the I and III consoles. The circuit matrix in the I connects to the cable in a 4x5 horizontal configuration like: -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Where the III connects all vertically and parallel: ||||||||| But, I would think the button layer should work? Or you could just punch new holes for the alignment pegs. Good luck! I would like to see if enough people need/want new controllers made? Maybe the blue sky rangers still have the molds for these things? With systems 30 years old and emulation etc. I would think some demand exists! coyo5050
Is it possible the system itself is bad and thats why the controllers dont work properly? It's been awhile now but I think swapping the matrixes back and forth produced the same results making me think its prob the matrix. I hate to waste the time though.
