bojay1997
You know Steve Jobs was in the same boat as Nolan Bushnell in 1998. Most thought of Apple bringing back Jobs as a publicity stunt that would have no real impact. If you look at what Jobs did from 1988 to 1997 you'll see a similar route. Not even close to the same situation. Are you familiar with a little company called Pixar? Toy Story came out in 1995, some three years before Jobs rejoined Apple. Nolan Bushnell has spent the past 30 years driving one company after another into the ground and arguably was never successful at any type of business venture. I really wish you guys would learn to separate childhood nostalgia from the reality of what happened.
+moycon
Not a troll just an ignorant opinion. Fixed! Nolan Bushnell has spent the past 30 years driving one company after another into the ground and arguably was never successful at any type of business venture. So we should all hate him and talk shit about him? Did you give cash to this guy? Did you lose money investing in one of his ideas? Lot's of people take chances on products and ideas and fail. My girlfriends brother blew 50k on a business he wanted to start and lost it all. Do I hate the guy? Hell no, why would I? If he did it a dozen times I could care less. Albert
Not a troll just an ignorant opinion. Saying that Apple is a "cult", only produces "overpriced crap", that Jobs is a huckster and is just a figurehead is pretty much trolling. Jobs is hardly a "figurehaed" as he is involved with every facet of Apple and brought the company back from the brink with OS X, switching their computers to Intel processors, the iPod, the iTunes Store, and the iPhone. If they were producing "crap", their stock wouldn't be at record highs and they wouldn't be continually breaking their earnings records: http://www.macrumors.com/2010/04/20/apple-reports-3-07-billion-profit-for-q2-2010-best-non-holiday-quarter-ever/ I will give you that their computers are expensive, but they also retain their value much better than PCs (I was able to sell a five year old PowerMac G5 for $1500). OS X is a huge improvement over Windows, which I'm reminded of every time I need to use Windows for something. Having said that, Jobs isn't a very good comparison with Bushnell, unless you want to compare someone who has been extraordinarily successful with someone who peaked 30 year ago. Let's please stick to the subject at hand and not get sidetracked. ..Al

hhwolfman
I love ya Bushnell. You didn't card me, when I drank beer at Chuck E Cheese, when I was 17. I was playing Atari, when you were in charge and loved it. With out ya, there would be no Atari. You are my idol.

+moycon
The Chuck E. Cheese near me still has beer on tap. From my memories all the ones we went to did. How do you think the parents were expected to put up with 100's of screaming kids and the loud "bloop, beep, borf" sounds of video games?
homerwannabee
You know this thread makes it to a point where it seems you are on either Nolan's side or Curt's side. Well personally I still think they are both awesome individuals, I will continue to think that both are awesome. I made a decision years ago to think of both Curt, and Nolan as both THE MAN. And nothing will ever change that. I don't care if Nolan freaking goes to China and starts to do a jig on the American flag, I will still think Nolan is THE MAN. So haters I am not hearing it. In my eyes Nolan was awesome, is awesome, and will always be awesome.

Chickybaby
Homer, it's acknowledging all the info that exists and not being ignorant to it with a proverbial 'head in the sand'. There are so many extreme examples of negative behavior that could be pointed out and questioned whether or not they should and deserve to be looked upon in respect and adoration but I am not going to list them. If somoene rips a person off for thousands of dollars they either did or didn't do it, there's no playing favorites about it.It's just plain facts and doesn't make them more or less important. What we feel in regards to that information is another thing. In many cases a good question to ask or add is '... at what cost to others?' Life may be about compromises, but there are some things I do stand by and firmly believe in. Words of wisdom I heard somewhere - 'You've got to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything.' And the previously quoted PT Barnum's - 'There's a sucker born every minute'. There's also - 'Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, shame on both of us' IMO, If someone breaks or goes against things that I believe are core values and principals of mine, that does influence me. Sometimes things can be forgiven and othertimes not. It does not make their actual real factual contributions any less important historically speaking, but it will affect what I think of them as a human/person.

Goochman
Honestly - its been proven over and over that Nolan was a total s**t head. Here was someone who had some level of creativity whose only motivation was money. The end always justified the means for him - building something longer term and innovating was not his way. Getting someone elses money into his pocket was his main motivation. After his 'hit' at Atari he attempted to get another 'cash hit' no matter the method. Someone on JS II posted some notes Nolan sent to the Tramiels trying to integrate uWink with the Jag to provide set top delivery of video games. The #s were complete fantasy but the financial terms were 100% favorable to him (which I believe would include a spot on the board). Well he is back home - cant wait to hear how much he contributed to the development of the ST and Jag and that if only the Tramiels would've followed his advice...............Where is the PR Team Nolan!

Curt Vendel
I wonder how big a chunk of that Paramount gets.... By the way, isn't Infogrames/Atari in financial trouble these days and may go down soon? Last time I checked, Star Trek Online had roughly three million people playing and counting. At roughly $15 per mounth, that means that revenue so far is around $200,000,000. Frankly, I don't see what sort of advice Mr. Bushnell could give on the subject to Infogames. Another bone of contention, as he feels slighted for not getting credit for his performance. There was a lot of wacky stuff going on in the industry back then.
