Sinistar in Cartridge Form!

I picked this game up when it was released and it's really impressive. I finally got the chance to start playing it and realized my controller pots needed to be adjusted.

I should be able to really enjoy this game now.

I used to play the arcade version when I was in 6th grade at an arcade near me. The game really got your adrenaline going with the roaring Sinistar.

For those of you who own the Sinistar cartridge, the latest Retro Gamer magazine (#125) has an article on it, "The Making Of: Sinistar". Goes into detail about how the arcade game came to be. Some interesting details about ideas that were proposed but never made it into the game. If there's ever an attempt to make a Sinistar Deluxe...

Sort-of familar icon_mrgreen.gif

In doing the 5200 port first, this was done with the approach of leaving everything in its original prototype state, therefore the code and data lay at the same addresses and are padded or call extra routines to handle the differences between the A8 and 5200 (joystick mapping/key reading etc). Hence its <24K fitted onto a 32K cart.

Since then I have played with moving the A8 version onto FlashCart and have correct all tables etc so that the code/data can be relocated anywhere and so in doing so a bit more understanding has been made. However I haven't attempted to track down and fix any of the bugs.

I didn't realize this game came out in 2010! Time flies. Anyway, I was just curious if there had been any movement on a Sinistar Deluxe or Sinistar Complete update to the game to address the few raw parts of the prototype (collision detection, color issues, text) along with possibly adding analog joystick support (to mimic the 49-way joystick from the arcade version). I suppose that would also allow for Trak-Ball support?

I've posted the binary here. Enjoy!

Great, thanks!

Any idea about there being a "fixed" version that addresses the collision detection/color/text issues? And possible analog controller support? I own the boxed cart already but I'd love to buy a Sinistar Deluxe or whatever an improved version might be called.
