Mendon
Just read that Firmware version 3.40 is now live and includes the new Playstation Plus! option. CLICK HERE for a short Kotaku story on the update. I'm passing on updating my PS3 for now and just going to watch and see what comments are posted regarding its features and quirks. Tempest
Playstation Plus doesn't look all that interesting to me. Not $50 interesting anyway. Tempest
HammR25
Here's what it updates: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/06/28/playstation-3-system-software-update-v3-40-available-soon-2/
Reaperman
well at least this update actually does something. I didn't much care for the update that only removed functionality. That system auto-off seems to be the most useful. I tend to fall asleep streaming movies to the psp, and end up turning my system off in the morning. Why it didn't have an auto-off before is beyond me. Edited June 29, 2010 by Reaperman
cimerians
I posted on another thread how vague the plus statemets are. 50 bucks for what? I want to know.
beoran
I don't trust these firmware updates, which I why my consoles are staying offline. Who knows what else they'll be taking away from us?
Atariboy
I don't trust these firmware updates, which I why my consoles are staying offline. Who knows what else they'll be taking away from us? You'll eventually have to have them anyways if you ever plan on playing more recent titles beyond the launch librarys of your consoles. Your losing more then what your gaining from that. Typically they add features, not remove them. All you have to do is check a forum like this and read an overview of what's included in a new firmware release before installation if your that concerned they will remove another useless feature. Reaperman
Typically they add features, not remove them. of course when they *do* happen to remove features, it's still not really optional in terms of playing recent games or connecting to psn. As far as the system updates go, I've taken the predictable position of simply grabbing my ankles and crying Edited July 9, 2010 by Reaperman
beoran
True, some games force me to upgrade my firmware. Then I just have to accept it. But I don't need on-line play, at least not for now, so that's why I avoid it.
+Gemintronic
@Beoran: Just remember Red Dead Redemption was the first game to force the Other OS crippling "update" The nice thing is us consumers who won't pay $60+ dollars on a new release are still safe in the bargain bins.
