Super Circus AtariAge (new WIP)

Sorry guys - didn't mean for that to sound like something was wrong... It's just with the buying / selling / moving thing is taking all of my time, and I'm also having issues at work. :( Hopefully once I get down to Florida I'll have more time.

Thank you for the good wishes anyway!

Bob

I know exactly how you feel, Bob.

Welcome to the Sunshine State. Are you headed for Florida's east coast or its west coast?

EDIT: clarification

Edited by mellis

Wow, I'm glad that I was completely wrong.

I had thought for a moment that maybe Atari "got involved".

Glad to hear that's not the case-- good luck on the move, and looking forward to updates whenever you get settled.

Good luck with your move Bob! We'll look forward to hearing back from you once life has become stable and things have gotten back to normal for you!

Take care,

Trem

Hi Guys:

Just an update:

- Bonus Round completed (although I'd like to make the ending a little better than just switching back to the balloons):
 * You must hit the 'AA' Logo 16 times to finish the round. You get 100 points for each hit, and 5000 for completion.
 * If you die, the stage is over and you go back to the balloons.
 * For obvious reasons, the bonus round is only available if you select 'ALL' for the 'REFILL' option.
- Clown graphics for the death and player 2 have been updated, thanks once again to Espire8!
- HSC Support has been added:
 * IMPORTANT NOTE - The paddles have been moved to the 'Right' controller port. I found out the hard way that using the paddles and
the HSC together crash the HSC. You have to use the joystick in the 'Left' controller port to enter initials. You can,
however use the driving controller to enter initials if you are using them.
 * ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE - If you change the fourth byte of the HSC (the controller type byte) to anything greater than $01, the HSC crashes.

Again, the paddles now use the 'Right' controller port from now on.

What's left:

- Sound

- Bonus item that flies at the top of the screen

- Safety Net Power Up (replaces 'G' power up)

- Blank Lines sometimes appear in the middle of moving objects when using paddles. I have no idea what this is. :(

Also, I have decided against the 'Cut Scenes' between rounds. I hope to make this a 'twitch' game like the original, and the cut scenes (IMHO) will break the flow of that.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks,

Bob

P.S. - @mellis - I'm moving to Naples

Hi Guys!

Attached is the latest WIP of Super Circus AtariAge. the following things have been added:

- Bonus Item that flies at the top of the screen (it's very rare, though)

- Safety Net powerup ('N')

- 'Nicer' entry and exit of bonus round 'boss' :)

- Changed colors of player 1 and 2 clowns (1 = blue, 2 = brown)

To Do:

- Sound

Please let me know if the difficulty ramping seems ok, (there isn't much to do here, so I just made it gradually get faster quicker), and the play mechanichs are ok, etc. If you guys like it, all I have left is sound.

I may try to add some sort of 'slowdown' for grabbing the Bonus Item.

It actually looks like I'm running out of CPU time for code. I think it's because of the Paddles. Maria is ok, though. I've checked that through GroovyBee's utility. :D

Scoring:

Top Balloon - 30 points

Center Balloon - 20 points

Bottom Balloon - 10 points

Clearing Top Row - 300 points

Clearing Center Row - 200 points

Clearing bottom Row - 100 points

Catching a Power Up with the Teeter-Totter - 100 points

Bonus Round 'Boss':

- 50 points per hit

- 500 points for hitting it 16 times without dying

Top Bonus Item - 1000 points

Successful Bounce - 1 point

Let me know!

Thanks,

Bob

I'm guessing that nobody found any big issues? Or is nobody playing it? :(

I really wish there was some sort of MIDI->Pokey data conversion program as I have the "Entry Of The Gladiators" MIDI file that I would like to use for the background music...

I have looked up the file layout for MIDI, and I can probably write a conversion program for standard notes, but it would take just as long...

Actually, I've tried it out and it has been great. I haven't seen any problems but I may not have played it enough to find any. I ran a search online for the pokey to midi conversion and there are some videos of how to do it but I don't know if that will help you.

If you can find the SID version there is there is SID2TIA. Then all you need to do is a TIA to POKEY converter. I'm not sure how much of the song you'll lose along the way :(.

I get my Harmony cart this week. Will I be able to test the ROM on that?

Nope! Harmony is for 2600 games only. You'll need a CC2 for the 7800.

Well dagnabbit. :? Does the CC2 work with 2600 games?

Yes. But you're going to pay through the nose for one ($400++). You're better off waiting until batari finishes the Harmony2 which will do everything the CC2 does.

*shuffle* Oh alright.

Bob,

I haven't chimed in on this one for two reasons:

1. I've been busy with 'real life'.

2. (I thought) This game is practically unplayable for more than a few seconds with a joystick.

I have been playing under MESS 0.139, EASY setting, and cannot believe how even on EASY this game was very difficult to play. So for the heck of it, I decided to try the HARD setting. To my surprise HARD was EASY. For some reason under MESS 0.139, the EASY setting plays as HARD and the HARD setting plays as EASY.

I've have tried several sessions and the results always appears to be the case. Anyone else experiencing this under MESS?
