help me build a mame cocktail unit

im just getting started on building a mame cocktail unit. theres a couple of questions i have if anyone out here as ever done so, or something similar.

1. is there anywhere where i can get good instructions for hacking a keyboard for the controls?

2. what kind of buttons do you suggest? happcontrols has a buncha different kinds of buttons and joysticks, is there a better place to look?

3. what size is the monitor inside these cocktail units?

 

i think with this help, i should get a good start on things.
