liveinabin
Okay:) that's one vote for the 360 version. May I ask, did your playthrough of the 360 game include any of the DLC? I've heard that's where the problems start.

I've heard that's where the problems start. I had very little issues with Fallout on the 360, with DLC. Considering the tons of hours I put in, I was glad the 360 didn't melt or something. liveinabin
Excellent. I'll switch my preorder tomorrow. The fan noise is a fair trade off for a more reliable game played with a better controller. The visuals in the two console versions of Fallout 3 were identical, weren't they? moycon
In all the time a played Fallout 3 on my 360 I think it locked up once. I didn't notice lockup being an issue on the 360 either. (I have all the DLC) I would say it probably did lock up once or twice, nothing that got on my nerves. Oblivion on the 360 locked up much worse. I'd say 8+ times. liveinabin
Oh my word. The PS3 game locks up almost every time I play, at least once per session, requiring a full off-at-the-mains restart. Right, 360 it is. Thanks!
Mendon
On the PS3, I had no problems at all with the original Fallout; played perfect. BUT.... when I played the Game of the Year edition, I had lock-up's, freezes, and glitches galore. And from reading posts on the official PS3 forums, I wasn't the only one. I'd really recommend you stay away from the PS3 GotY edition and get the Xbox360 version instead. Mendon
S1500
On the 360 version, I only had lockups when I was getting to a certain building. Took me 4 or 5 tries to get inside said building without lockups. Once I got in, I did a progressive save. At one point, I had saved 1137 times. With all the dang branching that can go on, you can easily have 20 saves or so.
moycon
On the 360 version, I only had lockups when I was getting to a certain building. I did run into a crappy glitch on one of the DLC packs for the 360. I'm pretty sure it was the Pittsburgh one. (The Pitt) There was a section of roof that you couldn't cross (but had to cross to move on) if you had one of the other DLC packs installed!! You would just fall through the roof to your death no matter what route you took. The only fix at that time was to delete the other DLC pack and reboot. My copy of Vegas shipped yesterday overnight shipping. Right now I'm impatiently waiting.
liveinabin
Went in to Gamestation (in UK) where my preorder is. Asked to swap order for a 360 version when it's released here on Friday. Apparently, they don't know their allocation and I'll have to check on the day. Nothings easy.

Plus Amazon keeps giving me $20 credits for some reason. $59 collectors edition on the way
Mendon
I'm an hour into it and enjoying it! A couple things I noticed: 1) I like the new way of setting up your character vs. the original Fallout way. 2) I like finding Bobble Heads better than I do Snow Globes. 3) Hardcore is TOUGH! 4) Not sure I like the new magazine system at all.... they do not permanently raise your stat's but instead are time based. I didn't know this and just started reading them as I found them, and then noticed messages that these effects were wearing off. ACK!! On the plus side, you can buy them from vendors as well as finding them. 5) Lots of quests... I think I have 5 of them at the moment, not including the tutorial quests.... and lots to explore. moycon
I received my copy. Right now I'm picking my traits. Been on the character customization for around 20 minutes LOL Did you pick Wild Wasteland Mendon? This is the trait : Wild Wasteland unleashes the most bizarre and silly elements of post-apocalyptic America. Not for the faint of heart or the serious of temperament. Sounds interesting, but I don't want it to be overly silly either! BTW I can tell you now that sucks as far as the magazines go. Time based stat enhancements = lame. moycon
I picked up a book that added +3 to energy weapons. I think magazines are temporary and books are long term. Ah Ok. So basically they just added magazines. That won't be a bad thing thing then. Really they didn't add much as far as I can tell. Looks like crafting has been tweaked and expanded a little. Pretty much everything I've seen is pretty much the same as the last game as far as game play itself. Some new items like a doctors kit which will heal all limbs. I'm noticing a flashlight is absent (either that or I haven't gotten one yet) That makes me sad. Some of these buildings are dark!! The lack of major change isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it certainly means there isn't much that seems fresh because of it right now. Like I'm playing a huge expansion I guess. Maybe that will change once the story unfolds more. I wish the Collectors Edition came with a soundtrack instead of a making of DVD. Having a fun time so far, but the air of familiarity gets thick sometimes. I find myself longing for a new Elder Scrolls game. It's been 4 years since that game, and only 2 years since Fallout 3. Nimtene
I'm noticing a flashlight is absent Haven't played yet, but I'm guessing the only option is thePIP-boy light (hold down PIP-boy button for 2 seconds), like in Fallout 3. I found it to be effective enough for me.
xenomorpher
There's a perk or two I think for increased visibility in low-light conditions. The reloading ammo and revamped work-bench is a great plus. I haven't been able to create any new weapons yet though. Wearing another faction's uniform makes messing around more fun, though it's not quite like the Grey Fox's mask in Oblivion. So far this feels like Vice City. Nice additions that should have been in Fallout 3. They still need to improve the whole 3rd person gameplay if anyone will use it. I hope Fallout 4 will be at least as polished as Oblivion was, but I'm still more excited for the next Elder Scrolls game.
moycon
PIP-boy light (hold down PIP-boy button for 2 seconds), Thanks! That was it. I was thinking it was up on the D pad for some reason! Can see much better now.
S1500
I'm enjoying it right now. WOW does Gamestop need to stop hassling at every transaction: 1) I wanted the collector's edition. The kid quickly whipped out the regular one. But in his defense, there might not be any record on my preorder that I specifically wanted the collector's edition(but I said so originally at pre-ord time) 2) I don't want your dang membership card. Even the free version 3) I don't want to pre-order anything else. The kid was like pickin' future games out of his butt. Maybe I'll pre-order from somewhere else next time. I just want my dang game. Mendon
I picked up a book that added +3 to energy weapons. I think magazines are temporary and books are long term. Thanks for the tip! It's been awhile since I played Fallout 3 and I seem to remember that you found magazines, like Guns & Ammo Illustrated, that permanently raised your stat's in the game, not books. Maybe this is a change in New Vegas, in that they added magazines AND books to the game. Or maybe my senile memory is totally shot. liveinabin
Apparently, magazines give you a much higher (+10) stat boost for a short time. There are times in Fallout 3 when that would have been really useful (hacking computers, swaying a conversation etc.).
Mendon
Did you pick Wild Wasteland Mendon? Yeah, i took it. I wasn't sure what it exactly was, so I took it on a whim just to play around and explore it. Not sure what it does yet as I haven't noticed anything "odd", but I'm still early in the game: I just arrived in Primm. After I leveled up the first time, I took the "Low Vision" perk to help me see at night and in buildings. Not sure its working (or maybe I don't understand how to use it) but I did a rescue mission in Primm that entailed exploring a dark hotel and the low vision wasn't much (if any) help in there. Just like I did with Oblivion and Fallout 3, I made sure to have a game save at the point where it allows you to edit your stat's, profile, skills, etc so that if I decide to go back and start over, I don't have to go thru all the tutorial or character set-up game play again. I noticed one thing pretty close to the beginning of the game that I think was related to the perk. Somewhere on the outskirts of Goodsprings I think to the West or maybe South (I found it when going to kill the gekos at the water supplies) there is an open refrigerator on the ground with a skeleton in it and a hat named Suave Gamblers Hat. When I approached that refrigerator in the top left corner of the screen was a little picture of a worried vault boy and a strange little tune played. I am wondering if that was related to the perk?? Well some had names like Big Book of Science, Chinese Army: Special Ops Training Manual, Paradise Lost, Lying Congressional Style , Tales of a Junktown Jerky Vendor etc... which to me all sounded like books. Others like Grognak the Barbarian or Guns and Bullets did indeed sound like magazines (or comic books) all raised your stats permanently. I guess they decided to separate the two. moycon
Just ran into my first major bug. Was fighting some guards at a prison and I suddenly fell through the land and wound up trapped falling into a mountain about a mile away! WTF!? I couldn't fast travel since it said I was falling, and after trying to move off the mountain I died!
