Flashback 2 picture quality

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, got myself a flashback 2 last week and its great.

One issue, and i'm wondering if its a common one, the composite picture has faint verticle lines running the length of the screen, pretty annoying as otherwise its perfect.

Anybody else encounter this, i'm hooked upto a crt television encase thats of any relevance.

On my CRT tv it comes in like my 2600 Vader, not great, but workable. Some games look better than others. On my LCD tv, it has a terrible splotchy, almost unplayable picture on most games. Could your issue be a PAL/NTSC issue?

Hey, thanks for replying.

No its definitely not a pal/ntsc issue, i have quite a few systems that are ntsc which i connect via composite.

The picture is kinda like the issue some people had with the nes, ie stripey

Mind you, your own system sounds like it has different problems than mine.

The picture and colour on mine is very clear and sharp, much better than any of my other 2600's

Makes me wonder if different components have been used in each revision of the Flashback 2?

It may a quality control issue with that particular unit. Maybe the Legacy Engineering members on this forum could explain possible technical causes/solutions or Atari's tech support.

I have the orginal FB that's now about 5 years old. When I originally bought it, the picture image had what appeared to be a faint vertical line slowly scrolling from top to bottom (or maybe it was from bottom to top? It's been 5 years!) - Is this what you're experiencing?

I thought it was my CRT TV, like a reception or connection issue. I connected the FB it to other CRTs and got the same results. An engineering friend suggested that the video wiring inside maybe was picking up interference (online pictures I've seen since appear to show that the wiring wraps around a magnet before the solder points.) I didn't dare open it, so I took it back to WalMart and got another one. That one DID NOT HAVE a faint vertical line scrolling, and that's the one I still have to this day.

I'm sure it'll be a major hassle, but if it's still under warranty, try returning it to Atari - if that's at all an option.

Hi, no,its not a sync issue with a rolling line, its faint lines that vary, dark, light, dark, light across the entire screen.

I've attached a photo from a different console, the neo geo which has the same problem.
