CPUWIZ
As some of you might know, I put up a River Patrol cart on eBay. So I get this question from a eBay member: "What would you sell this game for?" So I answer: "Huh ? I am auctioning it, there is no "Buy it now" on it." And the person replies like this: "Thanks for the nice answer I was going to offer you $850 as I have to leave the country tomorrow afternoon and can not be around for the end of the auction but with that attitude you can keep you cart that will not sell anyway (because you have a reserve one it)" Now WTF is this ? Do you guys deal with this crap all the time ? Cheers -R P.S. The reserve is met.

I'm not defending the person, but in their mind, that word may have been condescending. Other than that, your response was honest and to the point. - VD

sku_u
I would ignore the person completely if they send you any further emails. I've gotten many stupid questions. The stupidest one was How much do I charge for shipping and handling when the amount was listed in the portion of the listing marked shipping and handling. The second stupidest question I ever received was what forms of payment I accept when I specified that I would only accept Paypal and money orders. ther are a lot of morons out there. jaysmith2000
The dumbest question I ever received on e-bay wasn't a video game auction, but when I was selling a front-end mask from my 300zx. The guy e-mailed me and asked what kind of car it was for. It said 90-96 Nissan 300zx in the post. Oh well, what are you going to do.... MrRetroGamer
It sounds like the person was not serious with their inquiry anyway. I'd write them off as an idiot anyway. That's not how I would have worded a question if I was prepared to offer $850 to someone. I think the story was BS, why would they say they would offer so much, but yet in their eyes it wasn't going to sell anyway? You could actually get the last laugh and report them to EBAY for going outside the system. EBAY doesn't like their sellers OR BUYERS to do that! Now THAT would be funny! voiddweller
It sounds like the person was not serious with their inquiry anyway. I definitely agree, the person completely misread the response by CPUWIZ. You could actually get the last laugh and report them to EBAY for going outside the system... I'm still fairly new to this aspect of Ebay. How did the potential Buyer go outside the Ebay system? Thanks! - VD
MrRetroGamer
I'm still fairly new to this aspect of Ebay. How did the potential Buyer go outside the Ebay system?- VD I think it's under Fee avoidance somewhere: Using member contact information obtained from eBay or using any eBay feature to offer to buy any listed item outside of eBay
Starscream
I think you said the right thing. I woulda just replied "no". But then again, I will end auctions early. I know Ebay doesn't like people to sell outside or end them early but, ya know, sometimes I need the $$$ right now and I can't see paying more $$ for buy it now. Or if the person is genuine from the start then I don't mind. Unless you are scamming people all the time Ebay doesn't do much about anything. They don't wanna lose any $$$$
CPUWIZ
Actually, I did respond like this after I got that stupid response, I just wanted to know how often this kind of crap happens to you: "Hahaha, for $850.00,- you can save yourself some money and buy it from atari2600.com for $600.00,- ! I just don't mess around with auctions as they are contracts." P.S. This person is no newbie, in fact he is a gold dealer with >150 feedback ! Starscream
It happens all the time. I get more nasty emails after I win an auction though Hell, if ya woulda thought of it, you should've emailed him after he got shitty and told him"thanks for the genorous offer, but I've agreed to sell it to someone else for $1000.00. Thanks anyways." That woulda wrinkled his panties even more
MaxSpeed
The guy misunderstood "Huh" and is likley new to eBay. I would just forgetaboutit,
ATARIPITBULL
That person was not going to buy your River Raid cart, it just sounds like he was looking for a person to be a jerk too, thats all.
moycon
Agreed, The guy wanted to see if you would end the auction early for him and I'm sure he had hoped you were gonna go lower than it was worth. When he realized you wern't going to bite he became pissed and figured he'd make you feel crappy by making it sound like he'd would have spent a wad. Idiot. Gabriel
The stupidest one was How much do I charge for shipping and handling when the amount was listed in the portion of the listing marked shipping and handling. The second stupidest question I ever received was what forms of payment I accept when I specified that I would only accept Paypal and money orders. ther are a lot of morons out there. I sometimes ask stupid questions. Sometimes sellers don't list their shipping charges or payment method in the body of the item description. As a customer, I look at the other parts where that information can be found. But when they don't mention it in the body, I e-mail and ask about it. The reason being that I had a bad experience with a seller who listed money order as an acceptable option and then when I won the item he proclaimed that a cashiers check would be the only acceptable mode of payment. This was confirmed in his item body text, but the part up at the top where it listed payment methods said money order as 100% acceptable. Since then, I ask whenever there is the slightest confusion in my mind.
