5200 Serial Number Thread?

How is a 400 a fix for VCS compatibility? WTF?

Just an A8 person coming by to gently troll the 5200 people, I think. It's why I keep my A8 and my 5200 on opposite sides of the room. They don't need to be close enough to take swings at each other. :)

I found a two-port in a trash can at a car wash, complete with controllers and power supply.

:o

:o :o :o

Why? Why!? Who would do that? Enough to make me weep....

That's a pretty low S.N. It must obviously be a 4-port model.

My lowest(4-port) S.N.: 0020582 (AT 183)

then, 0119080 (SV 438)

My 2-port model: 0195715 (SV 472)

Look at your second one again. You sure it isn't SV-432? That would be close to mine. Your others were made in the 18th week of '83 and the 47 th week of '82.

4-port, made in U.S.A., serial no. 141101, given as a 17th birthday present, on May 19th, 1983 (I have owned it ever since), and thanks to AtariAge, Atarimax, CPU WIZ, and all in the eBay community for inspiring me to keep it going for the past 10 years with the hacks, homebrews, 8-bit conversions, and prototype repros to keep my 5200 running stronger than ever!!!

USA made 4-Port: 0073504 SV-033

Bought it at a yard sale for $5. Came with a second unit(2 port), and a few games. The seller didn't know if either of them worked or not. Turned out the 4-port worked, but the 2-port didn't. One of the games didn't work, but the others(I think there were 5 total) did, and the controllers were all fine.

4-Port. 0106819 SV-422. Built in the USA.

I acquired it circa 1995 when a friend gave it to me for having helped him work at his mother-in-law's thrift store. She had purchased it in a garage sale. He knew I wanted the 5200 because I'd never had one as a kid and he wasn't going to give the store's "Revenge of the Jedi" poster to me so I got the 5200. It was missing the power supply so I ordered one from Best only to discover the controllers didn't work. Boxed it up since I was still actively playing the Jaguar and finally recovered it from storage last month. Building my library up currently and I have Grips' awesome SNK arcade stick modded. (Get one, people!).

Got a sweet 4 port pickup on Saturday. Excellent condition. Refurbed the controller already, and it plays exceptionally well! I plan on modding this one and making it look sharp!

SV for a beautiful Sunnyvale model!

0187009 (SV-462).

Awesome. Post pictures. I was playing with my a/v & power modded 4 port last night. I hadn't used it in a while, and it struck me what a nice looking console.. :)

Ask, and you shall receive! Finally finished modding this baby. I used the low_budget/electronicsentimentalities board, took notes from CPUWIZ's power supply mod, and used my own creativity for port placement. I replaced the standard LED with this exciting purple one! I think it goes well with the 5200 "look and feel".

2 Port - 090608 EP253

Looks like you've got some El Paso models. I'm not 100% sure of the naming/numbering scheme with 5200s, but in 7800 land, the El Paso models are known to be the earliest. If "EP043" follows the norm, it would've been made in the 4th week of 1983.

Obviously, this would mean that these are not the earliest, but still, there is something neat about the El Paso production facility.

Interesting, especially since I got them both at the same thrift store in Sacramento, CA... not at the same time, tho!

I never find any good tech at the Goodwills here in Sac!

Me either, at least anymore. Someone has this town locked down tight. YEEEEEEEEEARS ago (late 80's, early 90's) my grandfolks lived right by a thrift store on Northgate Blvd. (right down the way from Fry's) I got both my of 5200's from tho. It's gone now, but that place always got a grip of classic stuff... Other than my 5200's I remember seeing a nice ADAM computer still in the styrofoam (I didn't have the $80 and couldn't talk the old man into it) and once they had a whole laundry basket of 2600 games I only pulled a couple out of (I did get a Track & Field tho) for literally a quarter each. They almost always had a pile of misc cartridges too, I think I got a couple dozen decent 2600 games once for maybe $10, and some Intellivision stuff too. Sadly I passed up alot (stupidly) but I did grab pretty much every 5200 thing I ever saw there.

I did recently get a SNES and a whole shoebox full of games at a Goodwill for $50. Mostly commons, but a couple decent games and one hard to get one (Pocky & Rocky 2) plus a fairly nice console once I took a toothbrush to it and rebuilt the controllers.
