No Way to Deactivate System

Today I was going to take advantage of the free rental of Nightmare on Elm Street. I logged in and tried to download the move and was told that I must Activate my console in order to download the movie.

Well, I went to Activate it and was told that I couldn't, because I already had a PS3 Activated, and I could only have one device activated at a time. Why the feature can't automatically deactivate the old unit when activating a new one, I don't know. So, I looked for a way to deactivate the old one.

It turns out that the ONLY way to deactivate a PS3 for video is to sign in with the PS3 and deactivate it from the XMB. This is impossible, because my old PS3 died and is presently in pieces in a landfill somewhere. What are my alternatives in this situation?

None. There is NO WAY to deactivate my old system. NONE. ZERO. ZILCH.

This means I can't watch video on any future PS3 or Sony system I own. Ever.

Way to go Sony.
