SEgamer
Wiz n Liz for the Genesis was pretty good. It was unique and the soundtrack was amazing for being on the Genesis. Edit: Also agree on Diddy Kong Racing. My neighbor played that everyday when he got it and it was an awesome racing game. I'm not sure if this is underrated, but I also really enjoyed Episode I Pod Racer on the n64. Edited November 13, 2010 by SEgamer
Ransom
Populous: The Beginning was the third game in the Populous series. It was a god game like the previous entries in the series, but it was also a RTS game. I had a ton of fun playing the Windows version, but it never became more than a cult hit and no sequel was ever made. I would love it if someone made a sequel to this game some day. mbd30
Also Gaiares (same system) seems to be kind of forgotten, but it's a lot of fun too (also insanely hard, to me at least). I used to be able to get to the sixth mission boss without losing a ship, back when I used to play "Gaiares" all the time. And that's as far as I ever got. It's mostly memorization. I also stuck with the fat double laser beams and ignored the other weapons. I wonder if insane difficulty is the reason for why there's _still_ no walkthrough over at gamefaqs. (http://www.gamefaqs.com/genesis/586198-gaiares/faqs) But even "Shadow of the Beast" has a Gamefaqs walkthrough!

Nesbroslash
I like Micro Machines a lot, it's a great top-down racer. Also, Sonic CD is good, if people don't rate it well.
Video
, it was a clay-mation side scrolling platformer for the PSX (and maybe PC?) This game is a bit hard, but I liked it that way, and it had awesome music, amusing animations for everything, and I just loved the character, and the random songs in the game. I would have loved to see a sequel, or hell, even a more modern release of this, as it's still one of my most payed PSX games. Ransom
Math Grand Prix, Slot Racers, and Basic Math. My favorites of the early 2600 games! I haven't played the others, but Slot Racers is indeed underrated. It's another of those nice two-player games from the early 2600 era. I'd add Street Racer to that list as well. I particularly like the slalom variant.
Gabriel
Bring up tactical RPGs and you'll get someone saying Disgaea is the best TRPG of all time. Those people need to be hit in the head. Then you'll get some people saying Final Fantasy Tactics is the best. Then you ask them to name any other TRPG and they can't name one. You might get a few people suggesting Shining Force, Fire Emblem, or Jeanne D'Arc for the top spot. They're at least on the right track. But what I definitely think is the most underrated TRPG, and the most deserving of excessive praise, is Dark Wizard for the SegaCD. It hardly ever gets any attention since it isn't a famous franchise or from a fanboy favorite development house. Dark Wizard simply is what it is, and that's one of the top tier of TRPGs. Atari_afternoon
My two mid-nineties PC favourites, next to Doom, were "Corncob 3D" and "Capture the flag". Both were released as shareware and I had ordered the full versions of them. I know no one else who has played Corncob but I played CTF in turns with my neighbour, that was pretty funny. For GBA, I believe I have spent most time with "Wings". It was rare then and it is rare now but I have played the full WW1 at least 3 times on both sides and still have it. Since I have never had an Amiga, I don´t know that version. Also, from what I have read here, I seem to be the only fan of Atari 2600´s "Reactor". As a kid, I liked it how to place the baits and I didn´t find the maneuvring any harder than in any other game I knew. [All time favourite was Solaris though. Now challenged by Adventure. Well, neither one is "underrated" ] "Diddy Kong Racer", this thread has made me curious now. Anyway, Corncob 3D and Wings, I´m still glad to have them

I guess I should walk away from my TOZ shrine once and awhile. Giant Robot Mermaids blasting you silly while FM music commands one to headbang? What more do you need out of life! Gabriel
I always thought Vandal-Hearts for PS1 was the best Tactical RPG I ever played. Vandal Hearts doesn't crack my personal top five of the genre, but it's still a damn fine game. I'd agree it probably deserves more love from the wider gaming world. Oddly, I think it's brought up less often as a good example of the genre ever since the Live Arcade game came out and showed some activity in the franchise. raskar42
elevator action on gb this is so beyond the nes and arcade versions. weapon powerups, some stealth, jumping from floor to floor through open elevator shafts. the shotgun. This is one of my all time favorite games. bionic commando on gb again, better than arcade and nes version. midair swinging, dropping behind people and pumping them full of bullets. playing this game makes me feel like a total badass. Austin
I thoroughly enjoyed Corridor 7 for the PC back in the mid '90s. It used the Wolf 3D engine but added many enhancements including wall-mounted health packs, varieties of night vision, and other hazardous obstacles that you didn't find in other Wolf engine games. Despite being more maze-like than Wolfenstein 3D, I still had a blast with it. The enemies in it were unique, there were plenty of weapons that were varied, and with its dark atmosphere and excellent sound design, it really managed to put forth a creepy vibe overall. It seems to be mostly forgotten these days (not that it was very popular to begin with when it was new).

Rikkarr
Re-Volt on Dreamcast or PC Absolutely! This was one of my favorite games growing up. My brother and I would play this game for hours on end, and were amazed at all the different cars and tracks you could choose from. For the time, the graphics were nice, and the variety of weapons was great as well. We always found it perplexing how Sprinter XL had nearly the highest acceleration rating in the entire game, but was one of the starting cars... Algus
I'm quite partial to B.O.B. Its probably not even close to the most underrated game of all time but it is a very fun 16-bit era platformer. They say the Genesis version is inferior to the SNES version. I've played both (though I only own it on Genesis) and it is great on either system IMO. For older titles I would say Bosconian. A few years back, Arizona's lottery ran a Pac-Man scratcher ticket and beyond cash prizes you could also earn Pac-Man related swag. I ended up with one of those 6-in-1 game sticks that had Pac-Man and some other old games, including Bosconian, on it. I was blown away by Bosconian and wondered why I'd never heard of it until then. Very fun game.

WatchVenusSpa
Night Trap for Sega CD: Hear me out here folks, if you love really bad slasher b-movies, this is the ultimate video game for you. The only thing that could have made this b-movie cheezy perfection would have been nudity. The Adventure Island series for the NES: Insanely addictive even if the controls are spotty at times. Friday the 13th for the NES: The AVGN laced into it so badly that you'd think the game was a crime against God on par with TMNT NES or E.T. for Atari. That said, it is a solid exploration game with a good scare factor with Jason popping out randomly.

I have the CD 32X version no less for even added WTF. The FMV is hilarious and the gameplay itself isn't bad. It gets old trying to figure everything out and having to watch the same video over and over again. Honestly, I recommend getting a couple buddies and a solution guide. Its a good way to kill a couple hours Adventure Island - YES. I just grabbed the first one for my NES on Friday as I had good memories from when I was a kid. The controls are a bit slippery (esp. in the first one) but I love the liberal use of checkpoints (or in 2 and 3 the short stages) and the whole concept that the guy has to eat stuff if you want to live. Ft13 - This is probably one of the best games LJN ever made. That's not saying to much because it isn't that great of a game but it has some pretty good ideas in it. Lots to explore though punctuated by annoying time limits in the form of Jason murdering all your other characters and the kids if you go off on your own. It annoys me for the same reason Dead Rising annoyed me on the Xbox. Why must you ruin my fun with your garbage time limits?!
