fujidude
I think it was a joke about your choice of port..... 520...ST? Yeah. Maybe 1040 would have been better, as it is beyond 1024. The 1st 1024 ports are scanned the most.
Tillek
Yeah. Maybe 1040 would have been better, as it is beyond 1024. The 1st 1024 ports are scanned the most. Well, I called in today and checked his caller log, so unless it was an actual failed log in attempt, it's not 100%... but there were only about 6 and that's way better than one literally every 2-3 minutes. Good job DL!

Good job DL! I think some of those were my failed attempts to logon while I was at work last night. We have a wireless guest account that's a bit unreliable. I was attempting to logon with my kubuntu setup and for some reason, every time it would get to where it identifies itself as a BBS Express ST board, it would lockup. Oddly enough, I could ssh into a friends comp and telnet out from there and it worked fine. Dunno... Anyway, it certainly does seem to have helped and if port 520 does start getting swamped I can always go to 1040, 1050, 1200, 4160...

+remowilliams
Any way to specify a specific port to use on connect when using the APE R: device? I tried using the outbound/telnet capability but I don't see a way to specify a port.

Tillek
Just wanted to drop a note that STar Fleet HQ BBS is back at it's old telnet address of bbs.sfhqbbs.org (port 5983). I've got some plans to do a major overhaul of some things now that I have a lot more free time (I've finally completed some things I've been working on for a year that has taken up most of my non-working time). I'm also looking to see if there is interest in a Space Empire Elite tournament (with actual prizes) sometime early next year so if you have any thoughts on that, please let me know. Thanks! (the bbs.oldergamers.online address I've been using for it probably won't be available much longer since that was for another project). Tillek
When you connect, hit your {return} key (several times)!! Yeah, I actually just figured that out now. Unfortunately, I see great frustration in the future as there is no way to let the users know they have to do that. But it works for me at least, so I'll help spread the word. Heck, maybe I'll even post it on my BBS since people have actually been calling lately. (I almost just hit /s to save..... I'm in the zone!) doctorclu
I've tried the new port number all day today without luck. But I have updated it. Thunderdome BBS was a bit of a slap to the face. Tillek
Funny thing is the most active vintage BBS I know (Particles, which is a Commodore BBS) isn't even on that list. And when I say active, I'm talking about "you better call it daily, because they easily do 20-30+ local messages a DAY" kind of active.
