2011 Portland Retro Gaming Expo Announced

The 2011 Portland Retro Gaming Expo will be held on the weekend of September 24-25, 2011 at the Doubletree Hotel in Portland, Oregon!

What's different from last year?

Our 6th annual show will enjoy the following enhancements:

  • Different weekend. For the past two years we have held the PRGE on the third weekend of September. In 2011 we have moved it out one week so as not to coincide with other events in town (like the awesome Portland Pirate Festival) and to move to a new venue that was available on that weekend.
  • New venue. The 2011 PRGE will be held in the Exhibit Hall of the Portland Doubletree Hotel located in Portland's Lloyd District. The Doubletree is located just steps from the Lloyd Center MAX Light Rail station and just across the street from Holladay Park.
  • More space. While we enjoyed a strong relationship with the Portland Crowne Plaza, our show has simply outgrown their facilities. In 2010 we used over 8,500 square feet of floor space spread across two rooms at the Crowne Plaza. Our decision to move to the Exhibit Hall at the Doubletree gives us access to 17,000 square feet in one contiguous room.
  • More games. In 2010 our Freeplay Arcade featured more consoles and full-size arcade cabinets than ever before. Due to the immense popularity of the arcade and tournaments we have allotted even more floor space for games in 2011. PRGE is currently working with some local arcade and pinball collector groups to help us secure even more game donations. Stay tuned for more details as we firm up these plans.

We encourage you to check back with this website often as we will constantly be updating with information on the show and classic gaming in general. Look for admissions and vendor rates to be posted soon.

A very special thank you to Recycled Gamer who has redesigned our website for us! Come check for updates at www.retrogamingexpo.com

I'm hoping to be a vendor this year, and I'm already working on pulling extra stuff from my collection to bring up there. THis will be my fourth year attending and it gets big and better every year.

See you all in September.

I have been the last two years and hope no pre opening cherry picking (yeah right) goes on this year. Other than that, great, I will be there and hope to get a halfway decent score this year.

see you all in a little over a month,

charles

Just over 33 days until the Portland Expo!

We just posted a lot of new information on the website.

There is a list of speakers, a menu of systems in the arcade and the tournament list among other things.

We have already exceeded our previous record for online tickets sales by this time last year. Order soon if you would like to take advantage of the price break and the early admission. Our hotel room block is almost sold out as well, although other rooms are still available outside our block. It's going to be a big show this year.

I must of been on drugs when I made this statement! what was I thinking??

we will have a few special releases at our show this year, one of them has never been released on cart before and it will be boxed and numbered (less then a dozen made) and one has been release once before secretly. these will be available at the NWCGE booth, just come on over to the NWCGE booth and give me the secret Atari handshake and I will give you the chance to buy them. :ponder:

both of these are very limited and you can ONLY get them at our show! only a month away! hope to see you there!

Rick

PS NO... I can't say what the titles are. :P

Getting excited for PRGE!! There is a big new announcement on the PRGE site; Both David Crane and Garry Kitchen will in attendance and speaking at the event. AA member SeanHQ was instrumental in getting the two legendary programmers to come up, great job!

So, roll call; who is planning on going???

David crane, Gary Kitchen, etc...

This is awesome guys. Unbelievable how this has been growing over the past few years.

Good work... all of you.

@Rick, I will have to shake your hand :-)

I'm getting pretty psyched up for the event. I've got my reservations and the Friday before off, so I can arrive in a timely fashion and begin the party early. This is timely. Summer's nearly over and its time to change gears and play some games!!

I'll be givng away some "free stuff" at the NWCGE booth. Nothing too exciting, but please stop buy and say hi. I am not sure know the secret Atari handshake like Rick... but I'll do my best.

Thanks,

-GrizzLee

OK Rick, I see you will be my "some guy" this weekend; I will be searching the TG16 games pretty hard myself. I am specifically targeting Military Madness, Devil's Crush, Alien Crush and Galaga, but will keep an eye out for yours too. I want Klax pretty bad, so "game on" for that one, every man for himself.

Edit: Just re-read and saw you were looking mainly for boxes, so if you find Klax, I will buy the game off you!
