Tr3vor
today, its all about the graphics, what about the sound. I would like it if they would down the graphics a bit and up the sound quality. like Assassin's Creed, the crowd sounds like they're coming out of a snes. what do you think of modern sound design? iswitt
Do you not have surround sound? I am blown away by the sound quality of today's games. Assassin's Creed in no way has poor sound. My Bose surround sound system does not lie.

My Bose surround sound system does not lie. I have a 7.1 surround sound in the living room, and I know for a fact that some sounds fall flat on thier ass. like if some random guy in the crowd says something, it sounds compressed and 'blocky'. in some of the shooter guns like uncharted 1, some of the gun sounds lack impact. Its not game breaking, but in some instances, its just annooying.
MagitekAngel
Anyone remember the laughably flat sound effects that Grand Theft Auto made do with for its entire third generation of games? The guns honestly sounded like cap guns.
Reaperman
I wonder how they got every car in Gran Turismo 5 to sound so lifeless and boring. It's like they were trying. The only time you can get anything close to a good listen is when you stick your bumper cam literally up the tailpipe of the car ahead. You can just forget about enjoying your own engine sounds. The engine sounds and tire sounds are very lifeless in every GT game, from GT1 to GT5. it does kill the mood of the game when the sounds the cars produce sound like crap. this is one of the few redeeming qualities of Forza. I did wish that GT5 had revamped car sounds but yet again PD failed hard in this area.
HammR25
The only thing I hate about sound in today's games is when they put music in racing or sports games. I don't want to listen to a freaking song when I'm trying to drive my car in GT5. In game music is the first thing I disable when I start playing a racing or sports game. Rikkarr
Most of the time, I like music to play when I'm playing video games. Unfortunately, most modern music is the kind of drivel that my roommate blasts at unacceptable levels (though modern consoles usually have the option to play your own music). As for sound effects, I never really noticed. I don't have surround sound, so I don't think it would be right for me to comment anyways. JPjuice23
I don't play many next gen games, but FFXIII was horrid, and all the Call of Duty games have some ambience, but nothing else. Honestly, there's not really any tunes this gen that stick out. It's really sad honestly. Expect for throw back titles like MM9 and MM10. It was my way of saying you're too young to be jaded. And for the record, the sound in modern gaming is excellent. For the most part. Video
For the most part, I'm actually quiet impressed with modern game sounds, how everything goes together, the fact many consoles have so many channels that they can actually have many sounds done simultaneously... No more of this "someones talking, you shoot, and the sound of your shot disrupts the talking" crap going on. That said, some places where sound has evolved the least in the past decade or so, would be A)car sounds (which still sound like their using the pool of stock sounds from the mid 90's) and B)guns...see A. Granted, I don't have access to all the cars and guns you have in a game, but even with the limited access I do have in real life, I can clearly hear the limitations in many of these games....seriously, how hard would it be to go out with a buddy and just record random car or gun sounds? Even if they weren't right, you could at least add a bit more variety and update the sound que a bit.
Eltigro
I love the music and sound effects on Red Dead Redemption. That's the only game lately that I have been really impressed with the sound on...
