7800geek
A long time ago in my effort (which by the way failed) to get a copy of the very first Atarian magazine (the one with atari's superhero on the cover) without selling my car to raise enough for the asking price. I had this idea, and I truely want your opion and speak the truth if it's a dumb one. To run Atarian and classic gaming mags through my scanner and place those images on a cd for sale at $7.50 each including postage. Keeping in mind nothing has been done, or let alone I have found partners with vast collection of classic gaming mags for this sceam. Is this a good idea or a bad one? The plus side as I see it, is that more people will be able to see is up to now only in the hands of collectors such as my self The minus side...well you tell me. heavy-sixer
I wonder if there would be any legal ramifications? I'm not certain. It's just something to think about. There always seems to be SOME legal problem attached to any good idea.
NE146
I'd just scan it and put em up on a website for anyone who's interested

If you are referring to the AtariAge magazine, they're already all on the web. (forget where.) Most magazines are still owned by their original publisher. I doubt they would like someone making money off of their work. On the other hand, some publishers have allowed some people to post there magazines on the web such as www.atarimagazines.com. Kevin Savetz, the owner of the site, has got permission from the original publishers of Compute, Compute's Gazette, Creative Computing, Antic, Start, and others. The people who published these magazines are still on the web and if somebody else started posting their magazines without their permission they might get a little angry. I think they would be even more angry if someone was making money from it, as small as it was. If you really want to do this just for the classic video game community, a better way would be to get permission from a publisher like Electronic Games, or some other magazine, and start your own site. Hey, cool! A 5200 E.T. game? I never saw that before. Alright, ET is not what you call a great game but any decent game on the 5200 is cool. Bratwurst
I have the 8-bit Atari ET Phone Home game, and that sucker is fun. Much better than the 2600 counterpart. Well, I remember it being pretty fun, anyways.
t.skid
Two stars for E.T.? That's being generous. *reads further* Nine future E.T. games? I am not going to be able to sleep tonight. I think someone at Atari was reading this magazine and understand something like "nine E.T. game carts for each player". So it explain the five millions of buried carts

Artlover
I think the copyright/money issue would mostly come in regarding what you are charging for exactly. If you are charging basied even just .00001% on content, then it is most certainly a copyright violation. However, if you are charging only for lets say, storage media and for work in volved in burning, then you "MAY" be able to tap dance around the law a little bit. As in that case, you're just charging for your time and materials, not the physical content. But, I'm not a lawyer, so don't take my word for it, get in trouble, then try to sue me or something.
