xg4bx
Its nice to see that this game is still alive and well.. unfortunately I'm posting from my phone so I can't provide links to anything but it should be all over game news sites today. According to what I've read today its shaping up to be an open world action-rpg with a focus on melee combat, weapon crafting and upgradeable skills. There will be 4 player co-op as well. I'm getting a borderlands mixed with elder scrolls vibe so far.
Rex Dart
THAT sounds rad as hell. I'd play it.
moycon
Hadn't heard of it before you brought it up. Checked out the Trailer on IGN which gives no real indication of game play but now I do want to slit my wrists because I'm so depressed. (It really is well done if nothing more than a teaser) Based on the Game preview on IGN, this sounds an awful lot like Left4Dead 2 with less guns, a leveling up aspect thrown in and a posh resort setting. Not necessarily a bad thing. I guess the main draw is the open world? Although in a game like this I'd never want my co-op players to be very far from me, so the thought they could be at the other side of the island doing their own thing is I guess cool...but at the same time, would be real lame if I was surrounded by zombs! LOL I'll be keeping my eye on this one.
xenomorpher
I watched the IGN trailer a day or so ago, and it was probably the most touching and emotional trailer for any game or media I've ever watched. I remember reading about this game a year or so ago and looking at the screenshots, hoping it doesn't get cancelled.
Koopa64
Just watched the trailer. I'm sorry, but the emotional tug here was completely ruined by the CREEPY CG work. Seriously. I cannot care about people drawn on a computer that look almost like the real thing... But in an artificial way. I guess this is what they mean by the uncanny valley. I couldn't stand watching it, no character featured in the trailer looked natural or artificial. More like unnatural. Can't we just start hiring cheesy film actors like back in the 90s? At least they were, you know, REAL, instead of these creepy surreal things we see generated on computer workstations today...
moycon
More like unnatural. But weren't like 95% of the characters in that trailer un-natural? THEY WERE DEAD PEOPLE WALKING AROUND. Wouldn't that be considered un-natural? I get though, you were upset at the family.
Koopa64
No, even the Zombies didn't look or feel right. The Dead Island trailer reminds me of The Polar Express, in the same uncanny valley creepiness.
Hyper_Eye
This is the somewhat controversial trailer that everyone is referring to by the way. This trailer really has me torn between "best trailer ever" and "I can't believe they made that trailer." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZqrG1bdGtg
BDW
The trailer can be best described as "soul crushing".
xg4bx
I've gotta say that they've definitely got balls, you never see dead kids in games. Frankly its pretty rare in all forms of fiction, despite it happening on a daily basis in real life, its seemingly the last taboo in media. I'm not going to say anything lame against this game based on what we've seen (I have high hopes!), but I will say it has been done, many, many years ago.... God I love the original NOTLD. JamesD
There isn't enough there to know much about the game but it's a good trailer.

Hopefully the actual game play is that intense.

moycon
LOL Yep, After watching the trailer with actual game play, that's about what I expected. Although I might have been too kind suggesting it would compete with Left4Dead. Looks like a title I'd really enjoy for sure. I won't be paying paying $59.99 for the game though. Not unlike Two Worlds, this has budget title written all over. Sign me up in 6 months when it drops to $29.99 and I'll be all over this game. hobojoe44
There was the game George Romero's City of the Dead that was set to be released in 06, it got canned. http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/927719-george-romeros-city-of-the-dead George Romero's City of the Dead begins as four desperate survivors escape a ravaged zombie infested city by helicopter. After making it to the remote island of Isla Mortal, an accident destroys their only means of escape. Unbeknown to them the island is home to a top secret military installation, overrun by the walking dead. Armed with an arsenal of traditional and futuristic weaponry, players must battle the living dead from dusk 'till dawn in series of abandoned locales. With split-screen co-op missions, party mode, and four-player online feature, City of the Dead features a range of multiplayer features that allow gamers to play as human or zombie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_the_Dead_%28video_game%
moycon
that was set to be released in 06, it got canned. They did release an Xbox version of Land of the Dead. I played through the campaign and recall I didn't think much of it. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/79178-land-of-the-dead-xbox/page__p__965168__hl__romero__fromsearch__1#entry965168
hobojoe44
Yeah I got a copy at EB for $1 a few weeks back. It's ok but you can really tell it had budget tittle production values, you covered the majority of its faults in that thread.
moycon
Not unlike Two Worlds, this has budget title written all over. Hmmm The latest hands on video has me rethinking this statement. I'm not so sure this isn't a game worth getting on day one! I didn't really read the article (didn't want to risk a spoiler) but the game play video makes me think these guys are serious about releasing a quality game. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/118/1185184p1.html
+Random Terrain
xbox360.ign.com/articles/118/1185184p1.html Indeed it seems that a lot of development work has gone into the deformation and dismemberment of the zombie character models in the game . . . This might be my kind of game. Especially since they said in the article that you're in a bright, sunny place instead of the usual dark, drippy, sticky, gloomy places most games stick you in. I'm getting very tired of not being able to see anything in games, so this might end up being one of my favorites. xg4bx
ign review:8/10 Dead Island is Fallout 3 with zombies. Plenty of people are going to compare it to Dead Rising (as you can create weapons) and Left 4 Dead (as the action is first-person and good for four players online), but when I finally got past the game's obtuse opening and less than stellar cutscenes, I found a world rife with quests, interesting environments, and a character progression system that had me begging for more hours in the day. In short, Dead Island's a rough around the edges role-playing game, and I dug it. Dead Island probably won't win any game of the year awards. It's got visual bugs, the controls take a bit to feel normal, and the presentation in general isn't up to snuff. But the game gets a lot right. There is a huge world to explore, thousands of zombies to kill, and tons of side quests to take. Here on the other side of a 25-hour playthrough -- where I skipped a lot of side quests after Act 1 -- I'm anxious to get back into Dead Island, and despite the game's flaws, that's not something I say often. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/119/1192319p1.html
