Hi do you have any photos of the PCB ? Id love to see those IC's.

If I remember I'll get them on here around the 13/14th July when I have access to my 7800 again. Currently away.

modded with uav and power mod with blue light.

Hi i dont see the mfg date stamp on either unit but im pretty sure if your A1 has no Exp port its a 7C and i think the A3 is an 8C just by the final numbers that would make them exactly 1 year apart. Ill be doing an update using those dates unless you see something i cant but thanks again for the submissions.

Nice! One of the first PAL 7800s to roll off the assembly line. Any chance for some board pics? Assuming you feel comfortable disassembling it.

I looked up how to disassemble a 7800 and I’m fairly scared to do it 😅

However, I’m going to test it over the weekend and if it’s broken I’ll open it. But I don’t want to kill off a working console 😃

No problem. That's why I suggested only doing it if you are comfortable with it.

Thanks,

Mitch

It's only five screws to open the case, and an RF shield held on by several metal tabs. Use a flat blade screwdriver or needle nose pliers to straighten the tabs and remove the RF shield. Easy peasey. :)

If the console hasn't been opened up before, it is possible for the screw bosses to crack when loosening the screws for the very first time. Seen it happen a lot lately since the plastic is becoming more and more brittle as they age. So it is easy, but care needs to be taken to not put too much force or vigor into it when removing the screws. In addition when tightening them back in, go slow, make sure you back the screw first so it falls into place of the grooves so you don't cross thread it. And... don't crank it down super tight. Just enough that it starts to give some resistance as it nears the end. Going too tight is sure to crack the boss posts.

If it does happen, UV curing acrylic fixes those most of the time, if they break off in a "good" way and not shatter into a thousand pieces.

I don't have the UV stuff but I do have clear epoxy that I've used on a few over the years when they have arrived in a few pieces. Even after repairing them I reinforce them with 3 layers of shrink tubing around the posts. When I find boss posts with cracks in them already but not yet broken, I add in the shrink tubing. Been doing that for several years now. It at least helps keep the pieces together and provide some opposite force to brace the plastic better all around.

Just took mine apart last night and broke one of those posts. I can't imagine having been any gentler.

Yes it is becoming more and more common as the plastics age. One trick is if a screw doesn't start to turn easy, then actually try and tighten it just a smidge first, and then try and back it out to see if starts to move easier. But yeah...sometimes the posts will break in the process. The 7800s seem the most prone to this of all the Atari systems.
