just wondering if you could help me

I'm writing a short story for my german class and i need to know the past tense of bersten

I'm horrible at german grammar and can't find it in any of my books

what i want to say is "He burst through the door."

any and all help is greatly appreciated

"He burst through the door."

 

You wouldn't use "bersten" to translate that. "bersten" is not an action performed by a person. In german language only the door can "burst", most likely as reaction to a real explosin or some other force really destroying it.

 

Depending on the overall context, you'd translate that either with:

 

"Er stürmte durch die Tür" as in he "rushed through the door"

 

"Er brach durch die Tür." as in he opened it with brute force.

 

And I think the simple past of "bersten" is "barst", if you're really looking for that. But again, the door can "bersten", not the guy
