OldSchoolRetroGamer
I have an Sega Genesis Model 1 (the HIGH DEFINITION LABELED ONE with the HEADPHONE OUT) I know I could use the headphone out with some type of cable but I was wondering if there is a combined Video with Stereo out cable like for the model 2 Genesis? Or is my only option to use a Composite Video cable (that uses MONO audio) in conjunction with a headphone to RCA Stereo audio out? OldSchoolRetroGamer
You need to use the headphone jack, sorry. Well that's a shame, seems like that was an odd design choice on Sega's part. MagitekAngel
The option to plug headphones right in is actually something I appreciate - none of my TV's have a headphone jack, and the Genesis sounds really good through a nice big pair of Sony headphones. Then again, it also sounds really good pumping through the computer speakers I have hooked up to my CRT TV, Genesis hooked in via the headphone jack. Classic consoles + subwoofer = awesome sauce. yell0w_lantern
Yeah, unless you want to use a splitter for dual mono, I think you're stuck using the headphone jack. HatefulGravey
Just mod the system if its really important to you. It isn't something I have done, but they say its one of the easier mods you can do, and the results are nice. Hatta
It's definitely worth hooking the HDG model 1 up to a stereo through the headphone jack. Sonic 3 on a good Genesis on a good stereo is jaw dropping. You can internally mod the unit and run the extra stereo wire to the AV port on the back of the console. Like Hateful, I've not done it myself, but it's supposed to be easy. OldSchoolRetroGamer
It's cool, I got a cable that is a normal model one cable with an additional piece that hooks up to the headphone jack at the same time! Should be good to go,. looking forward to that awesome sound! atarigalore
I don't know what anyone is talking about on here.... I had non-hi def model 1 no ext port when I bought the 32x new the chritmas it came out and audio came out of it fine be it mono with the standard cable that came with it... now I have a TMSS hidef model 1 and a stereo a/v cable connected straight to the 32x no headphone jack and sound works too be still in mono. Unless I'm not understanding everyone else cause it sounded like you all said ALL sound gets cut off as soon as the 32x gets plugged in which is not the case at all unless it has something to to with the revision of the genesis and not that it's a model 1 at all.
