edintv
Hi to all, I´m new to Coleco and I can use some guidelines. I buy 4 Coleco a while ago, they where warranty returns and I didn´t spect much of it, that´s why I took a while to start messing with them. They where all boxed but the boxes was really bad shape and some styrofoam was too. of the 4, only 2 had Power supply. But they all look nice, apparently weren´t used that much before the return. After testing them Of course they have the following issues: 1. have a ramdom issue with the video, some parts of the games get "blurry" like the ships on Beamrider. But some other games play with no problems. 2. Had no sound at all. 3. Only a black screen 4 Apparently no issues, only i heard some Cratchy sound effects, I have to test it more. There´s some links to help me fix the problems? (repair guides, service manuals, etc.) I imagine i could savage from the dead unit some parts to fix the others. Also, I would like to get a rarity list or a list of official releases to start getting more games, I have only a dozen or so and if some of you know some tricks to fix dead carts would be nice also, I have 4 non-working so far. Thanks to all in advance.
ColecoDan
NIAD made a rarity list recently with all known games for coleco. It is this topic in the current forum you posted this. Name = "ColecoVision & ADAM Cartridge Collector's List v1.0 " The end of that topic will have the newest version of that list. Non-working carts --- clean the cart with an alcohol based cleaning solution it almost always works but if it doesn't then you can pretty much consider the cart dead. Do a search for AtariMax in google. They made an SD colecovision cart where you can get all the games as roms on one cart and play them on your colecovision. You can get the roms on the web. Yurkie fixes colecovisions for a pretty good price so if you want you can contact him and see what he can do for you, He also makes the colecovision controllers 100% better by putting a ball knob to replace the hand controller and straightening the cords to give you longer reach. I am sure there are sites and other forum articles here to help you fix things yourself and Yurkie could probably help you with that as well. That problem where some of your carts are clear and some of them get blury or have artifacts all over the screen is usually the on/off power switch. That switch has some kind of grease on it that causes problems when it dries out. You would have to clean it and reapply. Yurkie knows what kind of stuff to put on there and you can probably search google or this forum for the answer as well. There are Homebrew people as well currently creating games for colecovision so you can get games that were never released from colecovision. Pixelboy(www.pixelboy.com), Retroillucid(www.colecovision.dk), Opcode(www.opcodegames.com), NewColeco(www.ccjvq.com/newcoleco/) Hope this is a good start of info for you

Thanks for that I give my 2 cents with 2 games I have that are not on the list Non-working carts --- clean the cart with an alcohol based cleaning solution it almost always works but if it doesn't then you can pretty much consider the cart dead. Well, I don´t give that easy, I have recover 99% of my Intv carts from the dead, I guess i can do the same for the coleco, I will try to find a way to open the cart without damaging the label. Do a search for AtariMax in google. They made an SD colecovision cart where you can get all the games as roms on one cart and play them on your colecovision. You can get the roms on the web. I´ve seen the Atarimax web, but I´m low budget to collecting right now, so the Multi cart and the bootlegs had to wait for now. The problem is I´m overseas, so is not cost-effective to pay all that ship. I guess I will try to fix it myself. I open one console already (was easier than expected, thanks to slowcoder) and I will try the power switch, thanks a lot for the info. edintv
After opening, cleaning and resetting, all the 4 Colecos are working fine, even the one without sound. All the 8 controllers are fine except 2, that I fix easely with a little oil in the side buttons. But I only have one Power supply working, I have another dead, any have a trick on repairing the PS? I have all the carts working except Pit Stop, who is Cbs. Coleco is like Intellivision that the carts are the same for Pal/Ntsc? And there´s a site that you can download the scanned manuals? I don´t have any manual, except for Donekey Kong.

Yeah I consider myself very lucky, I think after all those units weren´t in the repair shop, maybe New units that get very rough treatment. They are really minty.and most of them with the complete manuals and inserts. Btw, I put the oil inside the micro switch of the side buttons (not outside), they sounded like they where dry. Any advice with the brick that is the Power supply?
edintv
I reach to the conclusion that most of the Consoles I got, where new, apparently they only took the Power Supply to cover warraties, I guess, alll consoles where pristime mint, except the one with the Audio Problem and the working Power Supply, Was still in nice shape but signs of use. I will keep 2 Consoles and I will sell the other two. I just list one In Gamegavel. I hope I will get more soon, in the Next Warehouse Purchase. coleconut
Any advice with the brick that is the Power supply? There is a pretty good youtube on a guy repairing a power brick. Sorry dont have the link but it can be found thru searching. Trick is to get it open. I have not tried it but I have read that you can rap it with a mallet to break the seal then it will come open or cut it open. In the video he checks solder traces and joints and points out the voltage regulators that may fail. Again have never tried to repair, I have a huge box full of them that work so havent had the need to repair plus I am dangerous with a soldering iron. Main reason though is that there's a place near me that sells them from time to time for $8 and they appear to be new.

edintv
One of the Units had a strange Serial Number, but is on a second label, I can see the label below. Someone knows anything about this?
retroillucid
One of the Units had a strange Serial Number, but is on a second label, I can see the label below. Someone knows anything about this? Looks like an officialy serviced/refurbished system, not sure though... There's many variations of the bottom CV system sticker The prototype system I have also have a different sticker, I think its numbered 167 I'll take photos of all my units tomorow to compare
