New Hyperkin System

Recommended Posts

Are defective SNES carts actually a "thing"? I've never seen one that didn't work. As nifty a gadget as this is, I don't really see the point apart from showing off to other kids during recess or something.

Probably not. In all my time collecting, I've only ever come across one Nintendo cart I couldn't get working with a good cleaning and that is a copy of TMNT 2: The Arcade Game currently in my possession. I'm not entirely convinced I can't get it working either.

It might be useful to test the battery condition of RPGs though, which tend to be among the more valuable SNES carts anyway.

I think HatefulGravy is right though lol. Who hasn't wanted to combine going to the bathroom and fighting Balrog at the same time ?:)

I wouldn't let that MSRP scare you too much. The original MSRP of the RetroN3 was also $79.99.

Good to hear that. The price was a little worrysome. I'd probably be into it around the $60+shipping mark, so I may end up waiting a bit on this one.

Does this one come with those awesome wireless controllers from the last one?

S-video out?

And most importantly, which feature that they've always gotten on right previous systems is totally broken in this one? ;)

They must have caught on to the fact that if they ever release a 'perfect' one

we'll stop buying updated models afterwards.

This is not made by Yobo, its made by Hyperkin. The Supaboy is not a newer FC-16 Go. Two different products from two different companies. Although I understand your confusion since many of the products these company's sell seem to come from the same factory. No they did not include any wireless ability that I am aware of. Instead it has SNES compatible controller ports. I assume this was to keep the price down.

No idea on S-video, but I would doubt it.

Your last question is the same question I have. What did the **** up this time? Only time will tell. :)

Excuse me? How does the Super Scope work on this thing, when I can't even get it to work on my 37" LCD? I know it's not a CRT crammed into that little case. :?:

It has TV out on it like most of these clone portables. So if you hook it up to a crt they are saying it works.

Ah, well, that makes sense.

So I was contacted by Hyperkin about being part of their, what they call, "Pilot Program". They are going to be sending some Supaboys to some retailers. They want these retailers to basically Beta test these. Find out any compatibility issues, comment on build quality, and basically give feedback on what they like and don't like about the system.

So it sounds to me like they are trying to do this right. I will keep you guys updated.

Awesome.

But even money says that they'll ignore all comments and release it with its buttons reversed. :D

One thing about snes clone systems to check is that they sometimes don't supply the controller ports with enough power. SN Programpads haven't worked (for example, on my retro duo), and even the generally great FC-16 go doesn't supply its wireless rx units with enough power when it's running a 'super powerpak,' so every few minutes the controllers freeze for a second or two.

And I wonder if they'd be willing to at least consider push-on covers for those ugly controller ports...

I guessing because it Hyperkin the thing will run on AAA and not a rechargable battery? (Would that quilify as something dumb?)

Thank goodness they have not made it with there usual Hyperkin "Wireless" Controllers.

Running Street Fighter Alpha in the video I saw compatability should be good.

While I love to death Yobo's FC16GO & the wireless controllers the addition of Control ports are a bit of an extra selling point, If only they could but them underneath or on the back of the console.

Now if only we could take all the best bits from Yobo and Hyperkin and make a truely sweet Handheld.

So if they are giving you some to test does that mean you will be sending me one to test? I mean, I can test one too you know. I have a large collection and a lot of time.... just saying, real life use is the best way and I promise I can be the best normal user ever!!!! PLEASE!!!!

They are giving me 1 to test, they expressly told me not to give them to any reviewers or other private parties. Which makes sense, they don't want people doing reviews on a product that may not be the finalized product.

I don't believe you, you just want to keep it for yourself. I'm going to go cry about it and cut myself a little. Bleeding is the only way I can be sure I'm alive! </emo>

Now that I have that out of my system...

I completely agree, but it would have been nice for me. Its like buying a lotto ticket, I knew I didn't have much of a chance, but on the off chance I had to ask a dumb question ;) .

I just got my Supaboy a few hours ago. Unlike my FC-16 Go, my Super Mario RPG cart works with my Supaboy. I also tested it with my SNES PowerPak flash cart and it works nicely. I'll give the battery life a test. The Supaboy uses the same battery (model BP-4L) as the FC-16 Go. It is a lithium-ion rechargable battery that is very common and used in many other portable electronic devices such as smart phones. The battery life on the FC-16 Go was only around 1.5 hours when used with a SNES PowerPak flash cart.

Interesting. But can it also run PAL carts? I'd probably buy it if it can run both PAL and NTSC.

As much as I love consoles, handheld gaming is so much more convenient. I don't have the room to have all my consoles set up, so if I wanna play something I've gotta set the console up, which is a pain in the ass if one minute I'm in the mood for some Mega Drive, then I'm wanting some SNES, and then some SMS. Having handheld versions makes my life easy, as long as the quality is up to scratch.
