Williams Pinball HOF- Favorite/Least Favorite Tables

Recommended Posts

Lucked out today and found a copy at Fry's Electronics. I submitted a cancellation request for my Amazon order, but if it doesn't go through and I get the game, I'll offer it up for sale here for what I paid for it. So far the game is great. I already had the PS2 version but this one was worth the $20.

Is 20 million good for a score on No Good Gofers? How about...on the first ball? heh. I play 4 players at a time. Ended that game with I think 7 credits.

20 mil is very good for a first ball. Its decently hard to score on that game, but its easy to control the ball due to the layout. :)

NGG is almost on the easy side to play. You can go on the ramps without much trouble. There's a big ramp that lowers in the center that helps you. The only tough one is the "hole in one" part. What I didn't realize is if you do a "skill shot" type launch, you can finish a golf course hole right from the getgo. Get up to 7? You can zap the 2 gophers. Never finished a 9-hole course yet. On that 20 mil first ball, I finished with 30 mil.

On the Arabian Nights game, it's nice to get 4.9 mil in bonuses at the end of the ball. :)

I want Swords of Fury.

Plus, does anyone remember that "pinball" where you used twisty handles to control a pinball airgun which rapid fired the balls? I'm pretty sure that was a Williams machine. That would be neat to play again.

That's probably Hyperball. I want to try it. That might be avaliable to play(ie for real) at the next Minnesota State Fair. Either that, or the Pinball on a Stick guys are really leading me on.

  • 2 weeks later...

I picked up the Wii version over the weekend, finally! After taking some time to get used to it (they require you to use the nunchuk and wii-mote at the same time, ugh), I spent most of last night with it and tried most of the boards at least once. I really like the Black Knight with its upper level and easily-activated multiball. Whirlwind was a blast, too, and is probably my favorite at the moment. It's not nearly as difficult as the others and there is a LOT going on. I also survived the longest. Like Keilbaca mentioned earlier in the thread, it's pretty easy to go at least thirty minutes on one credit with this one--I went at least that long and racked up 60mil on my first go! The thunder sounds and rumbling really add to the experience, too. Pin-Bot was my most-played table last night, and I really want it to be my favorite with its unique playfield and awesome, bass-heavy sounds... but I'll be damned if this board isn't out to get me. Nothing is safe in this one and my ball is always going down the side drains--it's extremely frustrating.

What I want to know is if it's still true that there's a 3DS version coming next Tuesday. Most sites list the release date as June 14th, but I haven't heard a peep about it through more official channels than a few review sites. I do hope it's true and it comes out. But I'm not holding my breath too much just yet.

For what it's worth I have heard many owners of real Pin-Bot tables say the actual machine does not drain as badly as the version in Williams Collection. And it doesn't matter if you have the Wii or PS3 versions (I have both) those side drains are too easy to drain in both games.

I'm glad to know it's not just me then. I would love to check out a real Pin-Bot machine then (never saw one when I was a kid)...

so is there anything in the works for more pinball collections? I really enjoyed the Williams one and would LOVE a Ballys one as well. i was ranked within the top 25 for Gorgar on the ps3 version at one time. not sure where i am now

I really hope so. The Virtual Pinball recreations don't even come close to doing justice.

I do like the Virtual Pinball stuff, but to me it is child's play compared to the Williams Pinball Hall of Fame Collection.

I want to see Haunted House, Creature From the Black Lagoon, and a few other great ones recreated in the fashion of the Williams Collection.

I would be the first in line to order it. And what I wish Williams would have done was simply add downloadable content to the game. In the back room or something you can have the option of purchasing a new table from the PS Store or something. If you charged $2 a table it would keep revenue coming as I know I would more than likely buy every table. That would have been a nice added feature.

I would go for that too. Heck, they could add it to GameRoom and it would be something I would actually buy.

Haunted House was released as part of a Microsoft pinball collection some years ago. The free demo version includes that particular table:

MS Pinball Arcade (demo version)

This runs fine under XP; I've not tried it with Vista or Windows 7.

I have the WIlliams collection on the PSP and I really enjoy it. I noticed that there is a Gottlieb collection as well. How does this one stack up against the Williams collection. Are there any other pinball games for the PSP that you guys would recommend?

I've only played the console versions, but I can't seem to get into the Gottlieb collection in comparison to the Williams one. Something about the tables.. I don't know, it might just be because I haven't given it nearly as much time.

As far as PSP pinball games, I think the two Pinball Hall of Fame ones may be the only ones available on physical media in the US. I believe there is another one or two over in Japan, and they should play fine on a US system. If you do the PSN thing, there are quite a few pinball titles available there as well. Some are strictly for the PSP, I believe, while others are PS1 classics that can be played on a PS3 as well. Some of those include Extreme Pinball (not very good if you ask me) and the Pro Pinball series (these are good).

Well I played one years ago when I was on vacation in Gatlinburg, TN once, and I couldn't get the thing to do anything but eat quarters. Seemed like it drained quite a bit on the outlanes (especially the right side). A properly tuned table probably doesn't do this, however, since the table I played on had quite a bit of wear and tear on it. They were keeping it in a sort of alcove type arcade between some gift shops, so it was exposed pretty much to all the outdoor elements except direct rain.
