AtariGeezer
What does an ATR-8000 w/Co-Power-88 (128k) go for these days??? Found one for sale...
sloopy
so did I... usually about $100 atmost, working... they arnt overly useful, the MS-DOS implementation has no graphics capabilities to speak of, all text, and the 80Col is software, which isnt very readable... as a disk drive, they are very capable in what they can use, 5.25", 3.5", and even 8", single and double density (but no ED)... they do have the limit of 1x speeds only... sloopy. MEtalGuy66
So basically.. for anything you'd actually WANT to use it for, an XF551 kicks's it's ass.. and that ain't saying much..
AtariGeezer
Okay, cool... I bought an ATR8000 (64k) from a friend in Dover, DE back in '92 for $100, but hadn't heard of anyone with the co-88... Was thinking of buying the one on ebay @ $135 for a backup, but maybe not now? Saw a plain ATR8000 on ebay a few months back go for $50 (BIN), but that had a fan mounted on top. I hesitated and someone jumped on it first... Thanks...
fibrewire
I thought about getting one - then changed my mind because it wasn't a Corvus. I'd say it's the highest rated novelty for Atari SIO, lowest rated in usefulness The one that is for sale on ebay has and does EVERYTHING... If you are a real collector, then you will BUY IT. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 120719368170

They did have an even more rare version of the Copower88 that would take up to 1meg of RAM.. Those can actually run useful applications written for text/mono PC/XT machines.. I can picture his face, but am drawing a blank on his name, but would know it if i heard it... he had several of them, and was active in a Atari UG... and only used an 8bit well into the 90's... sloopy. sloopy
Yeah your pic looks familiar, and i knew a few of the guys including Larry were in the service, so we probly have met... i remember when he got his black box, he treated it like it was made of something that could break if you looked at it wrong :') and when he demo'd it for the group, also remember when a bunch of users brought their ST's for a big midi-maze game... I havent seen or talked to Larry in probly 18 years... after i stopped going to Dover, I started going to a A8 UG in philly... i probly stopped going to Dover in '90, cause in '92 i went to the WAACE show with the people in Philly... sloopy. AtariGeezer
Maybe MSDos 1.0 would work Shoot, the Atari Portfolio has 128k of memory and uses DIP Dos 2.11...
MEtalGuy66
Well, I guess "useful" is a relative term.
sloopy
you can probly play nyet.com... one of the first tetris clones, worked rather well on just about any machine from a 4.77Mhz PC on up... sloopy.
