SteveW
Went out to the local flea market, bought Ballz: The Director's Cut, Space Pirates, and Mad Dog McRee for the 3DO, new and shrinkwrapped, $1.99 each. And I picked up a new shrinkwrapped Iron Soldier for the Jaguar for $4.99. Later in the day, I stopped at a thrift near my brother's house and bought MegaRace for the 3DO (jewelcase only) for $3.09. Guess I got lucky with 3DO stuff today. nintendan
Well ok, I know these arent "finds".. they are retail purchases, but still thought I'd share with ya'll: Onyx-colored Nintendo DS Lite ($147.77) at Wal-Mart. 2 DVD's for $15: Blazing Saddles and The Green Mile and Three's Company Season 8 for $29.83. Keep in mind, I get 10% off at Wal-Mart, so I actually saved about $15 bucks on the DS Lite. Three's Company Season 8 completes the series. It's the first show that I have completed on DVD for it's entire run. Hopefully they will release "The Ropers" and/or "Three's A Crowd"... +FujiSkunk
So, I just wrapped up a bit of a thrifting adventure that lasted all week. It all started last Saturday, when I found an Apple IIc, power supply, and matching Apple color monitor, all for $10. I was particularly keen on the monitor, since it would better match my Apple IIGS than the IIe-era monitor I was currently using (I certainly would have preferred finding an RGB monitor instead, but, oh well). So, I brought it all home, worked with it a bit, and discovered that the whole mess was rather, well... buggy. Unfortunately I didn't figure this out until after a few of the critters had decided to go foraging. Needless to say I quickly got everything out of the house, and then went about disinfecting the machines. The computer was no sweat; I've ripped apart several Apples and Commodores in my day. The monitor was a different story, because I had never opened one before. To make a long story slightly shorter, I successfully took apart the monitor, got everything cleaned and deloused, cracked one of the circuit boards, had my roommate teach me how to use a soldering iron, fixed the circuit board, and then got everything put back together again (with several false starts as parts and other reminders kept re-appearing). As an added bonus, the monitor still worked afterward. So even though I'm sweating the possibility of several new unwanted roommates (so far so good; we live pretty cleanly so I'm not too worried), I am proud to say I now know how to field-strip an old composite monitor, and I finally have some real experience with a soldering iron. Not bad for the week, though slightly different circumstances would've been nicer. In other news, today I found a complete Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors' Dreams for the Sega Saturn. Two bucks. Rockin' Kat
Hi, Yesterday I bought a 25" tabletop television at a thrift store for $9.99 It's a Hitachi. very nice internal stereo speakers Very good picture Two sets composite video/stereo audio inputs... One AV output and one RGB input...which is the only reason I even pulled it off the shelf to turn it on. It also was fairly clean for a 22 year old TV in a thrift shop.... and doesn't smell of cigarettes. Though.... I don't know what kind of connector that RGB port uses. SteveW
Could that RGB port be a SCART connector? Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/18190-the-official-thrift-finds-thread/page/135/#findComment-1150522 Share on other sites

Bruce Tomlin
Could that RGB port be a SCART connector? Youl'd know that wasn't SCART if you'd ever seen a SCART before. SCART is a freaking monster. That is a rather uncommon RGB connector, and I'm not even sure that it does analog. I've seen it used with a cable that has a 9-pin CGA connector on the other end. Scumdogg
Picked up some good 2600 carts this weekend... Berserk, Carnival, Squeeze Box, Title Match Pro Wrestling, and Fast Food, for $2 or less each. I also got Joust and Galaga for the 7800, same prices. Yay me. I bought about 30 games overall this weekend, across 7 systems. Other highlights include Street Fighter: The Movie for Sega Saturn ($2), and Super Famicom versions of Street Fighter II, Axelay, and Final Fight ($5 each). +FujiSkunk
Yesterday I bought a 25" tabletop television at a thrift store for $9.99... and one RGB input...which is the only reason I even pulled it off the shelf to turn it on. I almost got something like that. Last week there was an interesting 20-or-so-incher at one of my usual thrift stores; it did't have a built-in tuner, and instead had support for one composite source and one RGB source. I figured it would make a decent gaming monitor if I could find something that would work with the RGB input... except that there was a big gaping hole where the RGB port is supposed to be. Oh well. This week it was gone. Picked up Goldeneye and Conker's Bad Fur Day for the N64 today, at two bucks each. Not a bad haul, since I've heard those are two of the better N64 titles. By the way, SuperPsycho, you have good taste in movies. gulag picture radio
Zwackery, I bow down. I gotta ask how much? I've only ever found two Odyssey's - one was int he original box, and pretty much unplayed (included the rifle expansion), and the other was in the travel case. Apparently the travel case is super rare - as f the system and all those fiddly parts weren't rare enough. I've been havin tons of good luck at thrifts lately. Last week I found an iMac for $15 (gotta find someone with an OS CD to reinstall). Last night a friend gave me a G4 tower for free. I guess that I'm a Mac guy now. Over the weekend I went to Sean Kelly's video game party and was able to trade out a lot of stuff. I got some 15 NES games for $10, Sega Comix Zone for $5 (with box and included music CD), PS1 trackball & Sega Game Gear waterproof housing for a few bucks as well. Here's today's haul - these are really the salad days of SNES for me: SNES Zombies Ate my Neighbors - $1 SNES Stanley Cup - $1 SNES F-Zero - $1 SNES Turtles IV - $1 SNES Mega Man X - $1 SNES Final Fight Guy - $1 (rated a 6 at DP, only available as a rental) SNES Captain Novolin - $1 (also a 6, a game about diabetes) Game Gear Garfield - free Game Gear X-Men - free and for you MIDI freaks out there, I got an M-Audio Radium MIDI controller (with metal stand) for $12. It'll got great with the Yamaha MIDI module & sequencer that I found last week for $4. Next week is my birthday, and I'm starting to think that this good luck is my B-day present! nintendan
SNES with all hook-ups and 2 controllers: $9.99 from Value Village. some N64 "pocketbook" for $1.99 from VV as well. I don't even need the SNES, I just bought it for the controllers (me and a bunch of buddies/co-workers wanna have a Super Bomberman fest around halloween). So if anyone needs a core SNES system (minus the controllers), let me know. rorysl
A new thrift store opened near me and today I scored this: 1 Six-switcher 1 Quickshot Joystick 1 Omega Joystick combat (text label - cx-2601) space invaders (text label - cx-2632) Asteroids Pac-Man Atari Power Adaptor Atari Tennis Paddle Controllers Total price $10.00. As I was buying it I asked the guy if it worked. He said he hadn't tested it but he'd throw in another Atari he had under the counter just in case -- his logic being one of them had to work!!! The second one was a six-switcher too! The other one was identical except it was missing it's sticker underneath and the tv type switch was broken off (and bouncing around inside by the sound of things). However I tested both and they both work like champs! The only thing that didn't work was the Atari Power Adaptor. Good thing I have a few spares! First time I've had my hands on six-switchers so I don't know if they're heavies or not... The one with a sticker says it was manufactured by Atari-Wong Ltd. in Hong Kong, Model #CX-2600 and s/n 568268945 with the number 082 etched into the casing. The one without a sticker has the number 331 etched into it's casing. Attaching a photo but I've never done that here before -- hope it works.
