Interest Check: Classic Console Tournaments

Recommended Posts

I want to gauge interest in hosting classic console tournaments on my Retrocade web site, retrocadeweb.webs.com

Tournaments would be 5 games in a two week period on consoles like Atari 26, 52 & 7800s, ColecoVision, Vectrex and 8-bit. I may consider a tournament with one game on 5 different consoles.

Rules

Game play emulation or console

Screenshots mandatory

Percentage scoring system with highest average score winning the tournament

Personally, I would be down for 2600, 7800, or some NES. I have a 5200 but what a P.O.S.! I am thinking about selling it. I don't have a ColecoVision or Vectrex nor would I be interested in learning to emulate either of those systems. Maybe INTV? I would need a heads up so I could get the carts since my game collection for that one is pretty low, only 7 games.

I will emulate 2600, 7800, or NES but like Hateful said, there is nothing like playing it on real hardware. So a heads up on a game list would be cool, no mater which system.

I typically announce what games are in the tournament six weeks in advance. Now, the 2600 tournament, "Stella's Six Pack," is an exception as players are voting on the titles.

And just to clarify, emulation is not allowed so games must be played on hardware. Having said that, multicarts are acceptable.

There is a ColecoVision tournament in November and another Arcade/MAME tournament in January. The arcade side is the exception to the emulation rule since arcade games are largely inaccessible in this day and age.

Lastly, in regard to the NES, I've been having to eliminate a large number of games because of cheat codes. Despite that, there should be a sufficient number of games to field a tournament.
