This might make local multiplayer games a bit better if the screen is too hard to see because everything is so small when split 4 ways.
Rex Dart
I guess it'd be an improvement over 4-way splitscreen on a 13" TV, but who has those anymore? Still, the thing's got my interest.
Christophero Sly
The controller looks interesting, but overall I'm very disappointed with this console. I was hoping that it would represent a bold step into the next generation, with performance to match, but it appears that it's just going to be a face-lift for the Wii, bringing it up to the performance level of the PS3/360. Rex Dart
If the rumored specs are anywhere near correct, it'll be significantly stronger than the PS3/360 graphics-wise. The video processor's a few generations ahead of the 360's.

What exactly were you hoping for then? I personally think its a neat idea. But from the photos I seriously question the ergonomics of the controller, it just looks like it will be handcrampingtatic. Just showed a photo of the controller to my little brother, his reaction? HOLY FUCKING BATMAN IT LOOKS LIKE A SUPER GINORMOUS GAME GEAR. xg4bx
It was just annoucnced via a trailer that Darksiders 2, Batman Arkham City, Assassins Creed, Ghost Recon, Ninja Gaiden 3 : Razors Edge, Aliens Colonial Marines and more Would Be Coming To Wii U. This is amazing news as it proves that the Wii U is finally coming to hardcore gamers http://gamrzz.com/games/darksiders-2-batman-arkham-city-assassins-creed-and-more-coming-to-wii-u/ i'm sold. Algus
So their initial lineup is going to be (by then) a bunch of old games? I'm actually looking forward to some Nintendo franchises with true modern graphics but I'm very suspicious of this controller. Is it really going to be cost effective? One of the draws of the GCN and Wii for me was that both were very moderately priced versus their competition. I don't want to drop $450+ on the console and $100+ on the controllers. Heck I didn't even like dropping $40 + whatever for the Wiimote and attachments you needed.
TwinChargers
Wonder what the battery life on the controller is gonna be? Also, how far from the console can you be with the controller before there is issues? Unfortunately, I don't really at this time see this as revolutionary as motion control was for the Wii, but we will have to see. Guess it would be kind of neat to have a controller for the kids to watch Netflix on if there is something I would like to watch or play on TV ( I would assume you could do that). Also, the WiiU is possibly a year+ away from retail and they showed only one game on the horizon (Zelda) for its current Wii platform. Sort of disappointing conference for Nintendo unless you are a 3DS owner. Edited June 7, 2011 by TwinChargers
Mendon
So far, the Nintendo conference is the only one I've actually seen from start to finish and I have to say that I was really, really unimpressed with it: 1) Nintendo really needs to invest some money into a good Console Naming research company. 2) Other than Skyward Sword, the Wii is a forgotten console. This new console has to be at least a year away and no games were mentioned for Nintendo's current home console, not even the upcoming Wii Motion. 3) The DS appears to be a forgotten handheld as nothing was mentioned for it. 4) The new console.... I honestly can't see the innovation in it. It looks like the technology is really nothing more than using a DSi as a controller. The PS3 can currently do streaming to the PSP (Lair, Pixel Junk Monsters, etc) and I can't see anything that this new console can do that a PS3 and the new Vita couldn't also accomplish. And I don't care how many Battlefield 3's, Modern Warfare 3's, Tekken's or whatever might come to the new console.... if Nintendo doesn't improve its online network (and no mention was made of it at all) for this new console, it isn't going to matter. 5) Where was ANY word on Pikmin 3????????? I thought the conference was short on time, short on details, and short on game announcements, while what little info was given for the Wii U (shudder... that's really a crappy name) was very underwhelming (and no, I won't say its nothing more than 3 Gamecubes duct taped together). Luigi's Mansion 2 and Super Mario 3D looked very good, though. Mendon
xg4bx
here's the announcement trailer for anyone who didn't see it- it seems to be confusing people according to other boards ive read. theres a new console attached to this controller, its merely backwards compatible with the wii and its accessories. cimerians
I knew it. Its just a Wii XL or Wii U as they call it with a tacked on gimmick. So they cant get any modern games done on the current Wii so they stick in some better hardware and a touchpad? OK........ The ONLY reason I would be interested in this is for better looking Nintendo owned games (mario and Zelda) and the possibility of the controller making certain games better. RPG's etc. Other than that I'm extremely skeptic as in my opion this is another iteration of the Wii just like the DS.

There are lots of 'hardcore games' on the Wii. and contrary to popular belief, a number of them have sold in decent numbers.

xg4bx
Wii U has 'Xbox Live, PSN level online capabilities' - Nintendo http://www.computerandvideogames.com/306013/news/wii-u-has-xbox-live-psn-level-online-capabilities-nintendo/ well, hopefully a tad more secure than the psn at least.... Reaperman
Maybe I've missed something here. I've seen the trailer, but without sound--is this a wii controller addon with its own cpu, or a new system? I don't like how its sticking so close to the Wii. Why would I spend money on a system that I already don't enjoy? Really none of the upcoming systems seem to be targeting me as a consumer (especially this one) so I guess that means that I'm just out of luck until (maybe) the next xbox. Algus
That doesn't really mean much until they give us some specifics. I mean, you could argue that the Wii has "360/PS3 Online capabilities" since it has a store and you can join games together. I want to know what the infrastructure is going to look like and how stable it is. Will they have all the bells and whistles of Live or will it be free (and with fewer features) like PSN? Kreeboy
Sigh... So many confused people over this. Its a new system...with a new controller. Wii U is backwards compatible with the Wii....so you can use the Wii-motes and Board with it. They didn't have alot in the way of games to show because the system isn't finished yet. Check out just about any article and you will see pics of the new system. (it pretty much looks like a Wii....just not as boxy...but this isnt the final design from what ive seen and heard.) Its a new system...not just an add-on. Nintendo is going to milk it. They were very vague at E3...and I have a feeling that the new system wont be out till sometime around Christmas...that way they can showcase it at the next E3. This was just a taste. The console pictured in the first post of this thread is presumably the "Wii U". I'm surprised they didn't show/talk more about the console itself. Draikar
At first it seemed to be a pad / controller that was the unit like virtual boy with the console more like a hub for the disk and tv but reading more about it, it seems to be a Wii with HD and better online support and the controller a gimmick that MAY catch on since the hype now is all about the ipad and such. I bet the controller will be about $100 by itself. The Nintendo convention this year for Wii U was Pee U
Christophero Sly
The controller looks interesting, but overall I'm very disappointed with this console. I was hoping that it would represent a bold step into the next generation, with performance to match, but it appears that it's just going to be a face-lift for the Wii, bringing it up to the performance level of the PS3/360. What exactly were you hoping for then? Something on the bleeding edge. Something so obviously awesome that one look at it in action and it sells itself. Performance-wise something clearly and vastly superior to the current generation. Something that puts a full stop on the current generation of hardware. Something that would immediately force Sony and MS to stop whatever it is they're currently focused on and respond or else risk losing the next generation completely. I admit I should wait until the final specs are published, and it's launch date is still a long way off, but I'm getting the impression that this console will turn out to be a half-step, much like the Dreamcast was.
Koopa64
Certainly the biggest disappointment this E3 was a complete lack of Wii news. What gives?! Is Nintendo TRYING to kill off the Wii? I thought they were supposed to be drumming up sales so they can coast between Wii and Wii U smoothly. That press conference is NOT how you take care of a system with lagging sales. The only thing keeping this E3 from being a certain one Sega participated in was "The Saturn is not our future". Also... No Pikmin 3. FOR SHAME NINTENDO, FOR SHAME!!!
