Robotron 2084

JUNE 2084

ORIGINATOR: MOONBASE 0712Z

CLASSIFICATION: TOP SECRET

MISSION: OPERATION ROBOTRON

At first it was a technological breakthrough. Humans created the Robotrons -- a species of robots so advanced they didn't need their inventors in order to think and act. But the Robotrons have turned on their creators! They're now determined to destroy humanity -- or reprogram the survivors, turning them into destructive mutants!

Strategy

The Robotrons attack in waves, with different kinds of Robotrons in each wave.

A new wave appears each time you destroy all the Robotrons on your screen -- except the invincible Hulk. You have five lives, and for every 25,000 points you score, you earn another life and another chance to complete your mission.

By saving as many remaining humans as you can, you'll rack up the most points.

To do this, quickly get clear of the middle of the screen at the start of each Robotron wave, but avoid the corners. Concentrate on wiping out the Spheroids and Quarks first. Eliminate most of the rest of the Robotrons, leaving a few Grunts alive. Then pick up the remaining humans before you destroy the last Robotrons.

Indestructible Hulks

Alone of all Robotrons, Hulks cannot be destroyed but can annihilate the human clones.

Your laser gun only slows them down. Avoid the Hulks at all costs.

Last Surviving Family

Man, Woman, and Child

Only a handful of human clones remain on earth. Touch as many as you can to

place them under your protective powers.

SOME TIPS FOR ROBOTRON 2084:

1) To learn how to play Robotron: 2084, choose "Novice" game mode. With this setting, study the enemy movements in different waves carefully. Once you have a good coordination level, choose "INTERMEDIATE" to learn more, and then pass to "ADVANCED" mode which we are playing.

2) CHALLENGE MODE: My suggestion is to try "EXPERT" mode before passing to "Challenge" difficulty.

3) SHOOTING DIRECTIONS: You MUST move your character in order to shoot the enemies. You can use 8 directions to shoot: 2 horizontally (left & right), 2 vertically (up & down), and 4 diagonally (up-right, up-left, down-right & down-left).

4) POINTS: In order to score more points, DON'T eliminate all the Robotrons before catching remaining humans, specially on earlier waves. On later waves, try to catch humans who are close to you.

DEADLINE is SATURDAY July 9th at 1:00 AM (Central Time, UTC-6) *extended play*

Next week is, *Kung Fu Master*

Robotron's the main reason I went with a 7800 instead of a 2600. (Mind you, I didn't know about the reasons to own a 2600 until after I joined AA.)

I've scored 947575. I'll post a pic later (phone pics take too many steps and I'm lazy), but right now I plan to break a million and post that instead. If the game beats me senseless first, then I'll post my almost-million score.

And now here's a tip: BRAAAAAIIIINS! No, don't eat the tempting big brains. They're actually broccoli. Soylent Green tastes better and gives you lots of extra lives! Every fifth level is what you should live for!

By the way, what happens if someone rolls the score? I don't think I'll be doing that, but just in case it happens like it did during a previous HSC...

1767625!

When I started getting worried that I would accumulate too many lives and die of boredom, the game whooped my ass hard enough that I thought I wasn't gonna make it to wave 50. I think I died around wave 60ish (I forgot to look at the wave number before getting the phone/camera), but I was fighting tooth and nail since about 40ish.

On those brain waves, I usually have my long streaks of 5000 interrupted by death. Next time I play I'll try to let the humans wait until enemies number few and nonthreatening, then do a mass rescuing and see if that approach is worth the risk.

Tip(?): Don't forget that bounce bombs (fired by the tanks) move at different speeds, so you can try to shoot some and dodge others. Also, don't forget that strafing can be useful when targets are in between those directions that you can shoot. (That's something I probably should have mentioned last week.)

The score rolls at 10 Million. I scored the game as a roll the last time we played it.

Huge score there, damn!

That's impressive to wonder if you die of boredom on ADVANCED SETTING. For me even the early waves, I'm trying my hardest LOL...

I guess knowing where to stand and shoot, helps things in the early going!

I should try expert or challenge, to see if I can handle those.

NEW BONUS IDEA,

Normally I won't do this but since noone has done the bonus yet, I'm changing it to

PLAY ROBOTRON on challenge mode for

(4) points to winner. (3) second place and (2) everyone else.

The game story bonus will come back later but this weeks bonus is now the

CHALLENGE MODE.

My challenge mode score =

39,825

Challenge mode score: 300350

challenge300k.jpg

The pic is so blurry. I want to get a better score just for a chance to take a clearer pic. (Last time it was so easy to pic clearly.) Those numbers at 3??350 could be 0, 6, 8 or 9. I am NOT gonna try to guess them, so I'm just assuming them all to be zeroes. (And no, I usually don't post these pics immediately after getting the scores, so oftentimes my memory of the score fades away.)

Don't worry, boredom doesn't stand a chance on advanced setting. The main reason I get so far is the sheer abundance of extra lives. Once I reach about wave 25 or so I start being taken out of "more lives than the game displays" territory, and it doesn't take too long after that before things get really exciting. Intermediate mode, on the other hand...ugh, had to suicide for a long time just to end the game. I love advanced mode, though I have to admit I hadn't played on advanced until this HSC. (After that trauma with intermediate, I went straight to expert for my playing. And no, I didn't get very far in that.)
