Las Vegas Craps?

Recommended Posts

Looking at the Roulette ROM, it appears there was plenty of extra space. Maybe not enough space in 4K for Roulette, Slots and Craps to fit in together though. I'm willing to bet it came out at more like 6K, and marketing had them drop the games that wouldn't fit.

Roulette on its own fits in about 3K.

Oh, maybe I was wrong. It says in the Intellivision Library that APh completed it, but it says it was never announced or scheduled for release by marketing... I'll have to see if I can find a rom...

Re-bump. Has anyone seen proof of this in the last year or so?

If anyone wants to think through a Super Pro Las Vegas Visit, I could spend some brain power on Baccarat for it.

I guess I'm a bit odd, but I actually think I would enjoy craps on the Inty. It's my favorite casino game, so I'd like to see what they could do with it on Inty.

The Craps table graphics was pretty impressive, as realistic looking as that of Roulette. As with Roulette, the Craps game tried to make things interesting by allowing each player to place multiple and complex bets. But without the clamor and the drinks and the real money on the line of a casino, the game was rather flat. Slow sales of Roulette led to the decision to halt cartridge production.

Intellivision Blackjack is missing key features like splitting, insurance, and most importantly a fixed number of card decks and dealer shoe (practice card counting).

These deficiencies were obvious and discussed at the time, but remedying them would have required moving the poker games to their own cartridge.

Roulette limits you to only three bets.

It was graphically difficult to show more. If you really find that insufficient, you can play both players. You can also bet on the lines between the numbers.

For what it is, Roulette is actually quite well done. The screen is attractive, and the multiple and split bets are nicely accommodated. A few people (very few!) who were obsessed with casino roulette and interested in testing out their own strategies have given it high praise.

The cartridge gets more interesting fast if you take a drink between spins and involve real money. Flashing the lights in your room and  having companions who jump and squeal when you win helps too.

If anyone has played the Hoyle Casino game, or others like it, where you have all the casino games all-in-one, that'd be nice for Inty, so you can go game to game using the same wallet for all the games. And of course adding more games to choose from is always desirable.

And if the cart has the save function then that'd be sweet, too, so your wallet is never lost; well losing all your money is par for the course, so let's say your wallet is not reset between gaming sessions.

Not in the cards for 1978, proposed for 1984.

There wasn't even enough space left in 4K to include Slots.
