Seller is a Smoker Auction Items

Recommended Posts

Do you regularly get items that smell of cigarette smoke ? I must get one in five items won that stink this way ! I do not smoke, and these bombs are not pleasant at all.

I am not talking about putting these things up to my nose, they stink from several feet away. Some items I leave outside for a few days it can be so bad. Smokers must not realize how bad things they own can stink after being smoked near.

yep common occurance, I figure with some of this stuff being over 25 years old it's had time to collect foul odors :)

I use a variety of stuff to get rid of the smell, I usually cover it up in a trash bag and add some packets of damp rid or if it can take it a good cleaning some white distilled vinegar can do wonders. You just have to let it air dry well after cleaning.

I have only had this happen once, but it was awful. I bought a 1986 New England Patriots jersey from some guy. The second I opened the package, all I could smell was smoke. It took over 10 hand washings and leaving in the sun to get rid of the smell. Needless to say, I ask now before I buy anything I would wear.

I have received games from people that *reek* of cigarette smoke, and the smell is very repulsive to me. Nothing like opening a package and having that smell slap you in the face! There is no doubt that the smell is from cigarettes, although I have also received carts that smell like mildew. :)

I've been bitched at by eBay buyers for listing in my auctions that my games are from a clean, smoke (and smo-KER) free environment. Somebody even told me that it was meaningless drivel that didn't affect the value or sellability of a cart one way or the other.

HAHA! Are you serious? That a smoker would take the time to actually write you to complain about that is amazing. Defensive, eh? :)

Honestly it hadn't even occurred to me it was a smoker before now, but you're probably right. :D Of course smokers can be plenty dense when they want to. The one I sat behind at the last wrestling PPV certainly didn't take a hint even though I coughed up a lung the whole time and my wife actually had to go outside in the middle of the show for fresh air - and she's a bigger fan than I am!

As a non-smoker, I have a very sensitive nose. My wife thinks I'm like a K9 Police Dog, I can smell even the most subtle odors. :D

Items stored in a smokey environment do pick up a nasty smell that is hard to get rid of. It sort of turns my stomach when I get one of those packages! :woozy:

I don't smoke but live in a house where people do smoke. Hence most of my items will accumalate odours over the course of years (they are all high up and out of most of the way). I've only ever had one person comment and ask me whether the stuff I sell comes from a smoking house, once he received my items. Obviously he could tell straight away. He didn't mind naturally, cos there's nothing I can do about it...

Living with a smoker for a non smoker is a bummer. You are probably used to it, but the opposite sex can probably smell it on your cloths.

No offence to you smokers out there, you should be able to smoke if you like as long as others are not forced to join you.

I've received kind of a lot of smoke smelling merchandise(Genesis, 3DO, etc.), not all from eBay, and it was pretty irritating and bad at first. BUT, I'd say after maybe 2 weeks to a month, the odor is like completely gone. I have a pretty good nose, and even if I sniff like 1 centimeter from my 3DO, it smells fine. So as long as you plan to keep your stuff, it's not as bad as it seems at first. It eventually airs out(or has for me). Plus I'd rather have it smell like smoke(at least I know what the smell is...) than an unknown odor :woozy:

Same here. I have all my VHS tapes in my entertainment center, they're in a cabinet, but it still bothers me that smoke might get in there. I'm thinking about taping the thing shut to help keep it out.

I dont smoke, but i lived with 3 people who did. I never realized how much I smelled like I smoked from living there till i moved out. ALL of my stuff REEKED. If I go there to visit them, my clothes smell like I just sat in a car and smoked a whole pack in 10 minutes, its AWFUL. Now when I visit them, I take me clothes I wore and put them in the bathroom (steam from the shower helps, not perfect, but a tiny bit better. and if i know im going there again before i do laundry, i wear the same clothes so i dont stink up everything else i own. I did manage to get the smell out of all of my non-washable items over time.

Yeah, if I'm in a bar or night club where people are smoking, I reek of cigarette smoke and have to change clothes and take a shower when I get home. It gets in your clothes, your hair, your jacket, everything. I don't think many smokers realize just how pervasive the smell is, because they become accustomed to it.. Blech.

Myself was non-smoker!! 8) We lived 5 people in the same house, all of them are non-smoker! That why my Atari games (boxes) smell like mint and clean smell! ;)

I did received from CPUWIZ, and I did opened it and yeah I did smell smoker from him! :D Recently I did read CPUWIZ's amitted that he did smoke!

I think we used to call it the "someone was out drinking last night" smell in college. You get used to it while you're at the bar, but the next morning your friends get a whiff of you and they're like :o "You stink dude! I guess someone was out drinking last night!"
