marcfrick2112
Hey guys, lol, reading about someone getting a $10 C-64 that was dead, reminded me of my Sweetest Commodore score. At a Salvation Army they had a cardboard box full of a C128, and addenda... no monitor.. but tons of stuff, Lightpen, Fexidraw (I already had that) + every add-on (I didn't have that!), a 1571 drive, that sadly was DOA, tons of productivity programs, full docs, and boxes.... All for the princely sum of $20. A week later, there's ANOTHER big box of C128 stuff in a box, again for $20. (Another 128, fast load cart,128 monitor, extra PSU, misc. stuff...) So, the point of my rambling... Can anyone recommend a source for reliable 1571 drives, for not TOO much money? Old-Computers.com, seems the best deal so far... but, oddball places like 4Jays Video Games may sell them too.. *tho, DON'T order a 1541 from them, they couldn't pack properly if their LIVES depended on it!* I mean, I have 2 full, and very nice C128 systems, yet not a single 1571 in the house... Let alone a 1581 ... *drools* Edited November 19, 2011 by marcfrick2112 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/190449-where-to-buy-working-1571s-not-too/ Share on other sites
SEgamer
I have an extra 1571 that I need to test and got it for cheap. I'll send you a PM if it's working. Mirage
I fully realize that you're asking about 1571 drives... but you didn't mention whether you have a 1541 at all or not. If not, I have quite a few of them that have never been worth selling with shipping. Since you're local to me (I'm in Menomonee Falls), if you want a working testing 1541, you could stop by and grab one from me for free. I don't have any extra serial cables, but you probably have those and are easy to get. I'm not sure I want to get rid of either of my working 1571's, since I'm a hoarder and all, it sort of goes against the calling. But the 1541's are out of control. marcfrick2112
Thanks for the offer, Mirage... Alas, I have no car ATM... And well.... I have like 5 or 6 working 1541's right now! LOL, I just someday want a 'proper super 128 system' someday.... Mirage
Hey, no problem. I have probably a dozen working 1541's and more that I haven't cleaned so not sure. I just won't ship them due to price, and also they're quite fragile. So, I'll probably have them forever. In 7th grade I would have killed to have even 2 1541's!
