HSC Round 4.15: Sega Double Header

Can somebody tell me what the point is of those little "buddy" things that follow you around in Alien Syndrome? I've played about 5 games now and I still have no idea.

 

They shoot behind you

 

Ah, yes. I figured that out right after I posted the question. I didn't notice at first because the bullets those things shoot are so wimpy compared to some of the main weapons.

 

Figured out a pretty good technique for beating the second boss. Grab the flame thrower weapon on the far left of the level (not to be confused with the fire ball weapon). When the boss launches those blobs at you, just stand still until they land. As soon as they do, mash the fire button and spin the joystick around in circles and the flamethrower will clear them out. In the breaks in between, blast the big guy. Easy-peazy.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that it is wise to get the packages in numerical order for more points.

I didn't discover this until now, but Alien Storm is the sequel to this game. I never really liked or understood Alien Storm, but after playing Alien Syndrome it makes a heck of a lot more sense to me now.

Time bonus is crucial. 300 points per second on the clock. It adds up if you have a substantial amount of time left on the clock.

 

If you finish the level with 100+ left you get a 60k bonus. That averages out to 90-100k per level.

That's kind of like the 50k bonus they give you in bump n jump for not destroying one other vehicle!

You just made me go and play it again :P I wish I hadn't reset all of the play counters on my MAME the other month. I'd tell you how sucked into this game I was for a bit. Same with AS. I'm sure they were both in my top 10 as far as both Time and Play Count. And check out my last game's score. A cool 200k even. I bet I couldn't do that again if I tried.

Something I had forgot about Hopper Robo. It loops after 8 rounds and the enemies get faster. The 216k run I completed the 1st 6 round perfect on the boxes. As well as round 8. 1st death was round 7. I forget what happened on the 2nd loop but it was far from perfect
