tremoloman2006
Hello everyone! I'd like to know which retro titles for the Wii you recommend purchasing for classic gamers. Since there are so many titles released I always get lost trying to find cool titles to purchase. So far I've bought Dragon's Lair Trilogy, Pinball Hall Of Fame - The Gottlieb Collection and Pinball Hall of Fame - The Williams Collection. All 3 titles are awesome and highly recommended! Other titles I've seen that look interesting thus far are: Data East Arcade Classics Metal Slug Anthology Namco Museum Remix Punch-Out!! SNK Arcade Classics Volume 1 If any of you own these or have others that are worthy of mentioning please speak up! I'd like to stock my Wii with some good retro goodness. On a side note, why is Godzilla Unleashed so damn expensive? It looks like a cool game but the prices people are asking for it are NUTS! Thank you for your help! Austin
Geometry Wars Galaxies is retro enough. Definitely worth the money.
Rex Dart
Not exactly retro, but everybody with a Wii should play Space Invaders Get Even. Awesome, awesome game.
DemonoidTentacle
There's a good Bomberman game for WiiWare. Online is good, but chances are that you'll get your ass handed to you by some 5 year old in Japan.
Mendon
There is a neat little Wii-Ware title called Urbanix that is a Qix clone. Very colorful and fun to play. There are two versions of Namco Museum: one has 14 games and the other has 24 and they are both $20 thru Amazon. I have the 24 game compilation and while the remixes I found unimpressive, I have fun with Mappy, Pac-mania, Super Pac-Man and others. Super Mario All-Star's Anniversary.... if you can find it.... offers platforming greatness. I also have Data East and while I enjoy Lock 'n Chase and Burger Time on the INTV, these games hand me my arse on the Wii. For $16 thru Amazon, its a good buy. boog
I'd recommend Space Invaders Get Even too. One of my favorite Wii games... just be prepared to spend 2000 Wii points with all the DLC levels. (I was still at #4 on the worldwide high score table last time I checked!) There are a lot of fun retro game updates on Wiiware. Taito also released Bubble Bobble Plus, Puzzle Bobble Plus, Arkanoid Plus. (and a crappy Rainbow Islands remake) Konami released Gradius Rebirth, Castlevania Adventure Rebirth, and Contra Rebirth. Capcom released a couple of retro-look Megaman sequels. Plenty of original retro-inspired games on Wiiware too. Bit.Trip series, Cave Story, Nyxquest, Lost Winds 1 & 2, Lilt Line, Toki Tori, Mr. Driller, Excitebike, Blaster Master, Alien Crush Returns, Chronos Twins, and many others. Be sure to check out World of Goo and Art of Balance too. Check reviews & videos to see what you'd like then find some cheap Wii point cards to get the most downloads for your money. For retro style gaming there's more quality/variety on Wiiware than at retail.
phaxda
All the BIT.Trip games keep me retro-happy. They are really fun even though I am terrible at them!
Rex Dart
All the BIT.Trip games keep me retro-happy. They are really fun even though I am terrible at them! Tried Bit.Trip Runner? I enjoyed that one, didn't find it too terribly difficult. is a similar game that throws in some PS1-style wackiness, but still keeps the retro feel by only using one button. jvgs
I recommend Mercury Meltdown Revolution, it's a lot of fun and it's cheap too.

Atariboy
Other titles I've seen that look interesting thus far are: Namco Museum Remix Might as well buy Namco Museum MegaMix. It kept all of the content from Remix and added several additional games to the lineup.
tremoloman2006
I just remembered Pole's Adventure! Is there a way to get this to play on a US console? It looks funny and I'd love to try it out. My wii does have the Homebrew Channel installed if that helps getting it running. Thank you everyone for your suggestions thus far! Definitely going to download some of your suggestions via WiiWare later today!
7800Lover
I have Data East Arcade and it's pretty cool. I'm interested in more of these releases but haven't had a chance to pick them up. I have some retro collections too on the PS2 like Taito and Midway - sometimes I'll hook it up just to play them.

ninjarabbit
Don't forget that the Wii has BC with the Gamecube and you can pick up all the retro collections on the Gamecube: Megaman Anniversary Collection Animal Crossing (lots of early NES games on it) Midway Arcade Treasures Fight Night Round 2 (has Super Punchout on it)
AtariLeaf
Don't forget that the Wii has BC with the Gamecube and you can pick up all the retro collections on the Gamecube: I thought I heard that backwards compatibility was taken out on later Wii models no? I have the black one - the one that came with Super Mario Wii. Unfortunately I dont have any gamecube games to test it.
FireStar
The new ones that nixed GC compatibility are the ones that were designed only to stand laying down (So you can put another console on top) They shouldn't have GC controller or Memory card ports either. Frogger returns is another retro-remake on Wiiware, but I think it has a bad rep. Has anyone played any of the other retro-reboot titles? (Like Contra Rebirth) Are any of them actually any good? Atariboy
The new ones that nixed GC compatibility are the ones that were designed only to stand laying down (So you can put another console on top) They did it to cut cost (No need to include the vertical stand with every system sold). The original model can also be placed in a horizontal position without any issues (And you can place a system on top of it, although with how small the Wii is, it doesn't strike me as something anyone would bother doing). Austin
Has anyone played any of the other retro-reboot titles? (Like Contra Rebirth) Are any of them actually any good? Contra Re-Birth and Castlevania Adventure Re-Birth are great. Gradius Re-Birth, it's so-so.
ninjarabbit
I really haven't been following the Wii lately so I was unaware that the newer models didn't have BC, oh well since I still have my older Wii with BC. I guess it makes sense since the Cube has been dead for years but still I don't like losing features, especially since games like Super Smash Bros Brawl and many VC games support the Gamecube controller. LynxVGL
On VC there are a few good Arcade games as well. Make sure you pick up Zaxxon,
Atariboy
Couldn't find a Virtual Console thread dealing with updates so I thought I'd bump this. The arcade version of Super Hang-On was released on the Virtual Console last week. After watching videos of the Japanese release from a year or two ago, the emulation seems spot on. Should be a good purchase for anyone that likes classic Sega arcade racers and it blows away the old Genesis port. Only thing holding me back is it's due out on XBLA this week but with two additional games (Alex Kidd in Miracle World and Revenge of Shinobi) for the same price it would cost on the Wii (I think Virtual Console arcade games are $10 aren't they?).
