Austin
The 3DO information is quite possibly misleading. The only box scans I have been able to find of Star Control 2 and Alone in the Dark have copyright dates of 1994. Why would there be copyright dates of '94 if the games were released in '93? It doesn't make any sense. Did anyone actually keep up with the 3DO when it launched? What I do know is Crash 'n Burn, Total Eclipse, and Escape From Monster Manor are 1993 games. FalcoPhoenix808
N64 gets an A for only releasing two titles!!?! I smell a fan boy..... Yeah, I remember being very unimpressed with the launch titles of the N64 - Mario 64 was a lot of fun, but the whole reason I bought that system was for Shadows of the Empire..which ended up being not so great (compared to my PC favorite Dark Forces) but still. I thought the Dreamcast had a solid launch though.

It was okay, the Hoth Snowspeeder part was the highlight, but all the on foot sections felt like he was on ice or not really a part of the environment. I also remember playing Dark Forces (or maybe it was Dark Forces II) and enjoyed it quite a bit. I still remember parts of it and can hear the music playing in the background. BassGuitari
Why would there be copyright dates of '94 if the games were released in '93? It doesn't make any sense. Good question. Why do the 2600's launch games have 1978 copyright dates when they were released in 1977?

chrisbid
WISE FWOM YOUW GWAVE! We just recently went in depth with this article on our podcast. We ended up talking over four hours on the subject. Part one of three can be listened to here ---> http://www.nowyoureplayingwith.com/now-youre-playing-with-podcast-episode-11-console-launch-history-part-1/
BydoEmpire
TG-16: C+Titles available on Launch Day: Alien Crush, China Warrior, Dungeon Explorer, Keith Courage in Alpha Zones (Pack-in-game),The Legendary Axe, Power Golf, R-Type, Victory, Vigilante That's the biggest travesty - Dungeon Explorer, Alien Crush, Legendary Axe and R-Type are all worth owning the system for. Definitely an A-list lineup for me. I can see N64 getting an A for Super Mario 64. It was all that was needed for me to purchase the console, and it was just so amazing at the time. Dreamcast should have gotten an A. Soul Calibur + NFL 2k = A. In fact, I bought those two games a couple days before I could even find a console. FWIW, I hate Game Informer's reviews. Totally arbitrary scores. Edited August 29, 2012 by BydoEmpire
Robocop2
It's fairly certain that the people making that list have maybe played 2 or 3 of all these games combined.
Blazing Lazers
The original Xbox shouldn't have gotten just a "B", not when Halo alone was so revolutionary. It may well be the ultimate launch title of the modern gaming era.
chrisbid
the problem with letter grades is that there is no specific criteria used in determining them The xbox had a successful launch, and Halo is the biggest reason why. So it should obviously get at the very least a passing grade... a C But if you're going to give letter grades to console launches, the basic criteria would be to judge it against other machines. The best launch of the 00's was the Wii. It surpassed expectations and rocketed the console to the number 1 position. Therefore it gets an A. The Xbox launch did well, but it did not push the machine to number 1. It battled Nintendo for the number 2 spot, while the PS2 enjoyed its lead througout its generation. With that logic, a B is a fair grade. but again, when magazine rate things, they never have specific criteria. the letters and numbers are simply pulled out of the editors asses.
