ILoveIntellivision2
My original releases were in cardboard VHS mailers, for cripes sake, using recycled EPROMs and recycled cartridge shells. Modern releases are in beautiful custom boxes with overlays and will have custom shells and what not, on an advanced board design that will enable bigger, better games. Many people, including Carl Those were unique Intvnut. How many did you sell in the mailers? How big can games be now? Does bigger really mean better? Do you have a site with all this info? Hey Carl. I do appreciate that you redeemed the console. The Coleco release of Donkey Kong sucked the big one. Your release shows that Coleco scammed us back in the day. atari181
ha ha. very funny dude. My girlfriend works hard for her money. You are the one just repackaging games. Do you really lack the creativity to create new games? You should be ashamed of yourself. You are a dis-service to the community. Maybe You should work hard for some money. intvnut
Those were unique Intvnut. How many did you sell in the mailers? If I knew how many times I'd be asked that question, I would have kept better notes. I'm almost certain it's less than 60 total between PhillyClassic and regular. I did some deeper research once and got a better answer for someone awhile back, but I don't have time to search for the exact number right now. How big can games be now? Does bigger really mean better? Do you have a site with all this info? Approximately 120K words -- about 7.5x as large as Space Patrol. (In some cases it can be somewhat larger.) Bigger isn't automatically better, but used properly it can bring you much more in a game. Consider that Space Patrol filled every last word of its 16K word ROM. I couldn't fit anything I'm putting into SuperPro Space Patrol into that ROM. I'm adding new game elements, new graphics, and some nice features. Naturally I consider it "better" and a natural follow-on to the original. Heck, look at the original MLB Baseball -- 4K decles -- versus World Series Major League Baseball -- 24K decles. Night and day difference. Both are fun games, but WSMLB is better in many ways.

+DZ-Jay
My original releases were in cardboard VHS mailers, for cripes sake, using recycled EPROMs and recycled cartridge shells. Although, like Joe said, a bigger ROM does not automatically make a game better, it allows it to have more memory for enhanced features, such as more graphics, sound effects, or music, and perhaps even more complex game-play. As an example, Christmas Carol will have a rich set of graphical animations (as hinted in the teaser trailers) that would most likely have been next to impossible to include in the old 8K ROMs used by Mattel. It would also have been a struggle to try to fit it all in the old 16K ROMs used by the original home-brewers. I must admit that I am not good at all at compression or any other trick to try to fit large amounts of data into a small place, and I would have had to compromise the artistic style of the game significantly had I been constrained to those sizes. (I'm sure someone with better skills could have done it, but that someone is not writing this game.) Of course, these animations do not necessarily make Carol a "better" game in and of itself, though I think they give more depth to an otherwise simple Pac-Man clone maze game. Plus, they're incredibly cool, if I may say so myself. -dZ. Edited April 12, 2012 by DZ-Jay
