How old is the 360?

If it just happened this once, it's pretty hard to say. Keep an eye out for the coloring when you're doing something other than playing the 360. If the 360 is having a big problem, you'll know. Usually with an on-screen error and code, or the 3 red lights.

Right now though, especially if it happened just one time, you really can't say what was the cause.

It's one of the new slim 4gig models, and I got it in November of last year. So it's less then six months old. It has gotten very heavy use, however. These slim 360s are supposed to be more durable then the larger, older models, but I don't know if that's true.

If it happens again (hopefully it will not) instead of turning off the 360 try to power cycle the TV. If the issue clears up, it's more likely the TV I would think. You could also try reseating the cable between the 360 and the TV.

Yes, turn the TV off and then on.

I'd say it was probably the cable or the TV. If it was a GPU issue with the 360, it would likely affect the whole screen.

Also, yes the slims are much more reliable. In fact, 2 waves of fat models that appeared just before the slims came out are pretty reliable.
