QuasiNoob
I recently bought a Model 1 Genesis with a mono RCA cable to connect it to my TV. Whenever I plug it in to my TV and turn them both on, I hear a humming that is clearly from the console (removing the white cable removes the humming) but no picture shows up. What is the problem with this? Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/198128-model-1-genesis-connected-with-rca-not-working/ Share on other sites
Chilly Willy
I do believe that's the RF out rather than composite. Composite and RGB uses the AV port, not the RCA connector. QuasiNoob
Thanks. The cable is plugged into the AV port, then plugs into my TV as RCA. Here's the cable http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=rca+sega+genesis&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1920&bih=826&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=9106910239042811436&sa=X&ei=XaS3T7izG4ja6gG2wcxL&ved=0CHkQ8wIwAw I am very unfamiliar with things like this, so I'm probably misunderstanding something. Asaki
The video doesn't even flicker for a second? Depending on how unfamiliar you are with these things, maybe you just have it hooked up backwards. The yellow one goes to video in, and the white one (or red, in that picture) goes to one of the audio ins (though most TVs are color coded, it would be hard to get that wrong). Try plugging a pair of headphones into the front of the Genesis and see if that's any different? Or maybe you just need to clean the cart and/or the cart slot. Or maybe you aren't using the right power adapter (wrong polarity, wrong amps, etc.). Or maybe the Genesis is just a little bit broken. Or maybe your TV is. Chilly Willy
That is a composite cable. As Asaki says, the yellow plug is the video... or SHOULD be the video. If it's a homemade cable, maybe he wired it backwards. If it came with the RF cable, you might try hooking that up and see if you get anything - it would let you know if maybe the AV cable is bad. QuasiNoob
Thanks for your help everybody. I checked that the yellow plug was in the video and the white in the audio, and got nothing. I switched them too, just in case... nothing. Sadly it didn't come with an RF cable, so I can't check that. Austin
You should be able to use a RF cable from another system as well if you have any laying around. I think the NES/SNES one may work. The one for the SMS will work too. Asaki
Plug a pair of headphones into the Genesis and see if any audio comes out that way.
