labrat, that sounds good. Trading is good, not sure what I have that you'll want...

Does the one that you have go out to RCA? Or is it the original?

Do the ones that have RCA plugs give the C64/VIC-20 a better picture by chance?

JohnnyRockets,

you can get a 5 pin midi cable at RadoShack and splice it into an AV cable. This will work on all C64's and the VIC and the picture is fine (it's what I use) but if you want the very best picture you'll need the 8 pin cable for S-Video; this won't work on the VIC or early 64's because they only have 5 pins.

I'm pretty sure you can use the original cable into video (yellow) and audio (white) of the standard RCA input jacks. The red does not connect (as it is chroma, not audio) but I think most TVs will output mono sound on both speakers if only the white is plugged in.

That said, on many of the cables like this you can open the DIN end and make whatever connections you want. I find this kind of mod easier and (for my poor skills) better looking than a build-from-scratch as Mr. SQL suggests.

If you are going to build the 8 pin DIN from scratch, remember there is more than 1 type of 8 pin DIN. The Commodore stuff is 262 Degrees where as most other stuff is 270. I ran into that problem some time back. A little more info can be found here http://www.lemon64.c...9344&highlight=

Mr SQL,

Great idea! Is it just two wires to two wires, or is the five coming out of the 5 pin midi?

There are three wires you'll need to connect from the midi cable; one is for the ground which is the outer wire for both the audio and the video RCA plugs and the other two are for the video and audio signals which go to the central wires for the RCA plugs.
