bigbee99
A little note about this game. The "Input" menu shows Eight buttons for this game. I could only get 3 to work which should be find. It's a racing game, how many buttons can there be? And after looking up a pic of the cab I didn't see 8 buttons on it. Button 1 (left ctrl) is the gas. Button 3 (space) is the nitro. Button 4 (left shift) chooses the gear. I found that you start off in HIGH and you are in LOW when you are holding the button down. I'm playing it .106 so this may have changed B
bigbee99
Anyone having trouble with this one? Seemed kind of quiet today. Maybe it was just Father's Day and all. I'll kick it off. 389,620 B Edited June 18, 2012 by bigbee99
BillyHW
My controller just broke. The main button has gone flakey. I have another one, but it sucks. Hopefully I can work around it. I tried setting up the MAME controls for Hard Drivin' once but couldn't figure out how to get it to work. I hope I can get the controls working for this game. I tried setting up the MAME controls for Hard Drivin' once but couldn't figure out how to get it to work. I hope I can get the controls working for this game. I'm just using a keyboard. I'll break out a controller for platform games sometimes to give me that console feel but that is about it. I'll add to the list from before. Button 1 (left ctrl) is the gas. Button 2 (left alt) break Button 3 (space) is the nitro. Button 4 (left shift) hold for low gear I'll give it until tomorrow evening to see if everyone can get it set up. If not I can pitch it and break the die back out to choose something else. It's a pretty cool game though. I improved some. I am having trouble getting my initials in at the high score screen though. I've had that problem before with racing games that use a wheel. Even Pole Position was tricky for me 461,800 B
BillyHW
I'm sure I'll figure it out. The controls for this game seem simpler than Hard Drivin'/Race Drivin'. Don't let me stop you from playing any racing games.
kane
Controls seem fine to me, easier than Pole Position. 309.060

BillyHW
I'm using MAME .135. There are still 8 buttons. I think button 8 is some kind of brake or a repeat of the break...not sure. For now I'm just using the four buttons you've mapped above. If anyone discovers what buttons 5-8 are for, please let us know.
BillyHW
Can't say I'm a huge fan of this game. What was the competition like in 1987? Outrun (1986) and Roadblasters (1987)? I remember seeing/playing those games, but I've never seen Top Speed before. I think I'd rather play Turbo, even on the ColecoVision, honestly. Also, I scored 192,290 on my second try. BTW, does it seem like just about every arcade game has a 68000 CPU + Z80 coprocessor like the Genesis and Neo Geo? You can sit down and play a few rounds in 15 or 30 mins. I'm wondering if it's game over at the end of the 5th stage or if it loops. I would think it would be game over. I guess I could check around MARP or TGI for some play backs.
bigbee99
630,360 I'm getting over 200k by the end of the 1st stage now. At the end of the stages, you get 10k for each second you have left on the timer. And check out my initials. I'm getting closer and closer to "BYL." Lauren Tyler
274,510 I remember when I submitted an .inp to MARP, I'd just been playing for the heck of it. I'd had no idea I'd finish. Hopefully next time.

bigbee99
After the kids went to bed I decided to give it a few more tries. This time I recorded it. inp is below. There was some luck involved on a few blind turns but I did make it to the 5th stage. I came up 2k short of Twin Galaxies' record. 723,050 B BYLtopspeed723050.zip

BillyHW
Man I suck at these games. Not a fan either. It seems that I always understeer or oversteer. I think my favourite arcade racing games were Virtua Racing, Daytona 3 (or was it 2?), and Suzuka 8-hours. Daytona USA on Saturn was fun too. M.A.M.E Offender
If you are a fan of both Rad Racer and Turbo Out Run, you're going to have a blast with this one!! The steering is different from Pole Position. IT is done, like B said, on a keyboard/hand controller/arcade platform. The controls are carried out quite different from its main competitor Out Run. Which separates it somewhat. Out Run is a much better game though, IMO. I couldn't sign my name in at all. It would only alternate between A and the & sign. 752,180 I almost made it to the end. I was on the homestretch.
