Torr
Oh and back to FlashBack, if the Genesis one uses passwords only, why are there save stations in the game? Is that just a throwback to its PC roots? Those save stations aloow you to save progress mid level. IE, the level where you have to do jobs to earn money, there are like 5 jobs if I recall... using a password to return to that level you start with none of the jobs done, however at any time during the level you can save, and if you die to resume from where you saved, but if you turn off the game you can only start the level from scratch by putting in a password... so there must be some kinda tiny battery in there or something... Austin
Hm, strange. I always heard it was the older model that had problems playing certain games (like Mortal Kombat). I've never had a problem on the Model 2 (although that's not to say there are no incompatibilites, because I haven't played the entire library on it). Regarding it being flimsy and cheap--It feels decent to me. Flimsy and cheap is the Jaguar CD or Magnavox CD-i players--the Sega CD Model 2 feels much better than these. The only issue I have personally experienced is that if the eject button gets dirty, it might get stuck. Apparently the fuse inside it can also go bad, but I haven't run into that either. *edited twenty times or so, because apparently I am unable to write out a paragraph that makes sense. the.golden.ax
Yeah, I have to echo this. The model 2 is the best functioning unit. The model 2 works with every game I've ever played (over 100). The door on the model 1 is a pain, and you WILL have to open the unit to fix it at some point if you ever own one. With the space in your cabinet, there is no way you could play 32x carts on a model 1 Sega CD, it would be too tall.

No battery. It's just a save point, like running past a save post in Sonic. It simply saves that point in memory while you're playing the game. Not a battery. Just RAM. Hydlide has something like that too. You can save your progress, but only until you shut the game off. It's not a battery. Torr
Yeah, that makes sense, like Sonic's Goal Post , don't know why that didn't occur to me before!
Arkhan
Yeah, that makes sense, like Sonic's Goal Post , don't know why that didn't occur to me before! It's ok. We all overthink the obvious sometimes. I do it alot, lol. I wish Flashback had real save points sometimes though. I can't think of how many times I had to go do something and didn't want to just leave the thing running. I ended up doing it anyway though.
cybercylon
On the Genesis, it used simple passwords, not a battery. It's password based. Go Go Go! So the Genesis controller is okay for all the commands and controls? If so it looks like I have a winner. My only beef with the password solution is they are not "granular" enough for me. See, back in the day I got as far as Level 2 where there are half a dozen terminals with jobs for me to perform. One of the final jobs is really hard and I never got past it. The task where you have to get to the reactor before the timer runs out and there's a lot of jumping and platforming. Anyway, I usually load Level 3 by using a password which takes me past that part of the game and on with the adventure, but I feel bad because it means I never really finished that section. It would have been nice if there was a password to get me directly to that specific job from the terminal and more passwords to get to various other places in the game, not big chapter leaps. Anyway, I'll look for the Genesis version. And sorry Arkhan but I don't have room in my cabinet for a Sega CD, alas. You can mod an original xbox and install Neogenesis. It will play Sega-CD game straight from the original CDs.

SRGilbert
Alrighty what do you experts think? Can I fit a Sega CD in there? According to the online specs the CD is 16" wide, there's only 15" unless I remove my Atari cart binders (which is fine, I have a Harmony now anyway). And from the videos I've seen the CD lid doesn't open too high so I doubt it will bump against the top shelf. My big concern is the door barely slides shut given the genesis controller cord is right up against it. Does the Sega CD add any depth? If it's even a fraction of an inch I won't be able to close the thing. How much space do you have between the shelves? I have the same setup with a Model 2, and from the bottom shelf to the top you'll need at least 9" for standard carts, 11" for Sonic and Knuckles with another cart plugged in, or at least 12" for a Game Genie with a standard cart. That's right, with the Genesis, Model 2 CD AND the 32x, you need a shelf with a FULL FOOT of clearance to use the Game Genie! And that's with a standard cart, not even an EA Sports cart! ubersaurus
You want the Sega CD version, dude. Trust me. It is by and large the best version. Even better than the Amiga one! :3 It's password based. Go Go Go! Of the cart ones (if you have no Sega CD), the Genesis one is better still, IMO. I grew up playing the SNES one. but then I got the genesis one and was like damn I wish I had this one instead. Then I bought the Sega CD one and was like !_! (I'm a Flashback obsessor. I have all of the versions available) So wait, the CDi isn't the definitive version?
Austin
So wait, the CDi isn't the definitive version? No, unfortunately. Not a bad version, but it's got some issues. Some slowdown I believe, and it's got those (unnecessary) borders on the sides of the screen. It's probably still one of the best games for that system though, haha. Underball
Loved the Genesis version, played it through to the end. Also loved the Sega CD version, played it through just to see the updated cinematics.

twoquickcapri
I'm going to suggest a JVC X'Eye I don't think his 32X will be compatible with that. I think it works but you need to remove the 32x to open the cd tray.
