How to get started programming for ANY Gameboy System?

Hi all,

Looking to play around with some programming in (hopefully) "C" for any version of the Gameboy (not picky).

Can someone point me in the right direction for the right (or most standard) IDE/Compiler Combo? Possibly some tutorials? I have been here: http://www.devrs.com/gb/software.php#appide but could not "figure out" which tool to use....

I'm pretty comfortable with C++, and have just finished a couple college courses in this. I said comfortable! Not good! ;)

Thanks!

If you can't figure out this:

http://devkitpro.org/

Then you may consider going back to BASICs

http://www.gbadev.or...hp?showinfo=195

That was appealing to me, but I could never seem to find a spot to download it from... weird...

Wait, I just checked the website and it is available, I guess it just became available from this site in May.

Thanks, I'll check it out... JR

This site has a manual:

http://ric.san.free.fr/gba.htm

This site has the source to an API:

http://sourceforge.n...ects/dragonapi/

This site has some additional libraries and examples:

http://pages.infinit...llu/dragon.html

GBADev has a few games made in DragonBASIC with source code:

http://gbadev.org/index.php?ID=544

More games and source at GBATemp:

http://filetrip.net/...homebrew/other/

Some older DragonBASIC examples:

http://theincredible...com/?page_id=12

Our very own Jess Ragan has programmed a brilliant game in DragonBASIC:

Please note that DragonBASIC is a dead BASIC dialect. Meaning, unlike 5200BAS or BasiEgaXorz where the developers have never officially declared termination Jeff Massung has seemed to do so. He almost made a GP32 port but never got out of alpha.

Care to single-handedly resurrect the BASIC GBA scene JohnnyRockets?

Well, I don't know about "single-handedly" but it is all really cool stuff to play with! Thanks a lot for all the great, great links!
