Seob
Hi, I'm searching for a cheap adapter to hookup normal db9 joysticks to my cdtv. I've seen some nice schematics on the internet for diy adapters, since a brickette is way to expensive. But I haven't got the tools to make pcb's. Anyone selling a diy kit? Thx
amiman99
You need one of those adapters see picture, and I dont know where to get them. I wanted to copy the design and I was working on a prototype which kinda worked, but I crossed couple lines so the direction was wrong. I may try again in the future. There is a better way which I realized after I made the schematic.
Seob
Yes i'm looking for on of those. I found those links: The links I have found are those: http://www.ppa.pl/sp...ow-do-cdtv.html This one opens a lot of popups. http://retrocu.blogs...k-adaptoru.html And here is a written description: http://web.archive.o...v-joystick.html
amiman99
Good examples, but I was thinking to put the 9pin connectors in the back in place of the expansion slot cover. I may try it again, but I dont have access to a laser printer (maybe kinkos...)
Seob
I also was thinking of putting the connectors on the expansionport plate. Did notice you're design. Love it.let me know if you gone make a other one.

Seob
Guess we are looking for wire wrap sockets: http://www.circuitsp...wrap-ic-sockets those can mount trough a board and extend into the existing socket. Had to change .com to .nl to get the correct page. It's 25 euro including shipping to the Netherlands. Will post my findings when i get it. Seob
Got the adapter in today. Came nicely packed inside a small cart board box that was inside a bubble wrap envelop. The adapter itself came in a ziplock bag wrapped inside more bubble wrap foil. The pins where protected with a piece of styrofoam. Also in the box came a manual that explains how to install the adapter and how to route the cable. The DB-9 connecters are fitted with long band cables. I used the 2nd expansion board cover to mount the DB-9 connectors on to. Can't say yet how it works since the packages is going to be my birthday gift. So i have to wait a other 2 weeks before i can use them.
amiman99
Thanks, I bite the bullet and got it too. Playing with the wireless infrared controller is pain in the butt.
oky2000
Did they work???????????? The CDTV is such a gorgeous machine BUT the lack of normal keyboard and joystick ports is a real pain.
Seob
I can confirm that it works great. It's nice to be able to use normal DB-9 joysticks on my CDTV. I only need to see if there isn't a slowdown in processing the input. When playing Xenon 2 i had the feeling that when controlling the game using the remote control, the onscreen character was responding direct to my input. When using a joystick, it felt like there was a minor delay between input and reaction. I only had this issue when playing Xenon 2, other games worked fine. Mind you this isn't adding a keyboard port to you're system so, you still need a original keyboard or a modded one for the system. Next mod i'm going to do is hacking a a500 keyboard to be used on my Amiga CD-32.
