Shawn Jefferson
Hi, Sorting through all the stuff I'm amassed over the years, and trying to fix some of the things that aren't 100%. I have two 800XLs that have slight problems: 1. RESET key doesn't work. The keyboard cable has that typical "burnt" look to it like a lot of my other 800XL keyboards. Where to start looking on this one? 2. BASIC doesn't work. On this (stock) 800XL BASIC is not enabled when booted normally. The option key works fine. Suggestions on where to look? Rybags
1. Swap in the keyboard from a known good one to determine if the Reset problem is the keyboard or something in the circuit on the XL board. 2. Basic Rom, MMU, PIA - try various combinations of swapping in known good ones.
Shawn Jefferson
1. Had to double-check, but the problem is in the keyboard (or the ribbon connector). Time to take the keyboard apart I think. Is the reset signal on it's own line, or is it part of the matrix too? 2. Still looking at this, have to get the soldering iron out and desolder the basic rom and the MMU probably. PIA is socketed, so I'll try that before touching the iron I think... Rybags
Reset and console keys on the right all have their own dedicated lines. Only the main part of the keyboard goes through the matrix.

Since it is used on a PC to set up a MyIDE drive and one would be putting files on the drive, a graphical user interface would seem to be intuitive to its use.Has any thought been given to making a GUI for MyIDE tools? And if it has already been done, where does one find it? Shawn Jefferson
Hi, There is such a thing... not an interface to my tools, but my tools only work with version 4.x of the MyIDE BIOS anyway and only on the Atari. They are getting quite old now I guess, and Mr.Atari is moving further ahead with his OS. Anyhow, you should go here: http://www.atarimax.com/ look in the forums for tons of information about MyIDE. Shawn Jefferson
The problem with basic turned out to be the basic chip... I'll put a socket in and a working chip. Still working on the reset button, but I think it may be the ribbon cable.
